Messymascot's faith in humanity and ginger safe haven

Well it's been an extremely interesting morning. I may have mentioned in here before that my neighbours (and landlords) have been seriously contemplating moving house, which was put on hold after they pulled out of a property last summer due to having no interest in their current house. Well they recently put it back up and now have somebody interested that is coming for a second viewing this week. They have also found a property that they are keen on, on the outskirts of Truro, which is the main infrastructure and transport hub of the county.

They were updating me with all this over coffee this morning and were showing me details of the property they are looking at buying. It has a huge indoor swimming pool in an annex, which has a large self contained flat above it. I (half) jokingly asked if they were looking for a tenant for this flat, but it seems that they may be. It's actually not something that they are actively looking to do, but they would make an exception for me. They also mentioned that Peter, the son, in another year or two may be looking at moving himself, and he of course owns the house I'm currently living in.

This house is far too big for my needs and I've always known it isn't a long term solution for me. Plus living in Truro would give me far more independence not to mention a saving of circa £5/600 pm on my current outgoings. Mind you I'd probably spend half of that on dining out. It has it's own outside area which Rob says is quite private but I'd be quite happy for them to join me occasionally for a summer cocktail or to throw a steak or two on my barbie. The down sides are moving away from North Helford, which is, IMO, the most beautiful part of the UK Plus, although the flat is quite large (around 2000sq ft), it only has 1 bedroom so I'd probably need to invest in a sofa bed in case I had visitors. To counter this I can quite easily get to most areas of Cornwall from Truro, so I can get to visit all the favourite haunts from my past plus there's a twice hourly train service to Falmouth.

At this moment, nothing is set in stone and they want to sell their house before they commit to the purchase, so I'm not getting too excited over it. And even if it goes through quickly I probably wouldn't move until the end of this year at the earliest as they have work planned for the new property. But they did say that me going with them makes it much more doable for them from a cost perspective, plus Rob knows the guy selling it through his Round Table connections, so even if there is a delay in his own sale this guy could possibly agree to take it off the market once Rob commits. Anyway he's taking me to see the flat tomorrow so I'll have a bit more of an idea after that.

As a matter of pure interest, the person potentially buying Rob's property is the widow of John Nott who is looking to downsize after her husband died last year. Somebody Pete possibly came across during his days in the industry.
You had me at swimming pool!

Fingers crossed it all comes off for you, mate.

Can't remember if I have moaned about this in here or not, so feel free to read ahead if I have:

I have had a lower back issue for a while now. First happened about this time 3 years ago, where my back went into awful spasms for a few days, and when it eventually cleared up there was a noticeable displacement of my pelvis, and bad pains down my left leg. Cleared up after a while, since when it recurred 18 months later, another 6 months after that and now there's been 3 or 4 instances in the last year alone.

Once I realised I couldn't blame it on one-off issues during or as a result of exercise I got it checked out and it seems I have 2 bulging discs in my spine that were irritating the nerves that run down the length of my left leg. Had a root nerve blocker injection yesterday and already starting to feel better, mercifully.

Sadly, though, it means an end to my burgeoning running career (far too impactful on that area of my spine) and the latest episode was caused by walking 75k+ steps in 3.5 days in Dublin last week, so need to tone that down, and all.

Looks like a pivot to yoga/pilates and calisthenics is in order!!

That's pretty much all the news that's fit to print from me, except to say that I am looking forward to Aintree in a couple of weeks and praying my suits still fit!

2,000 sq ft is a good size for a one bedroom flat, you’ll have loads of room, anyway I hope the viewing goes well….
Been to see it this morning and there's tons of space. There's a large utility area next to the spacious shower room. The kitchen is very well equipped with lots of space for my dining table/chairs. The living area is huge as is the bedroom which could easily double up as my study too. There is ample room for all my essential bits and pieces. The outside area that will be made available to me is very private and south facing. It is definitely happening too with the neighbours looking to exchange contracts before the end of the month and moving in by May. But it will likely be early next year before they are ready for me to join them so I'll have the rest of the year to enjoy where I am now. Win win really.

As a matter of interest did you ever have dealings with John Nott when he was Defence Secretary or was he a bit before your time? It's possible his wife may be my neighbour for a few months.

I’m glad it went well for you Fred, sounds like you’ll be very happy there.

John Nott was before my time as I was still in the telecommunications industry…….

Glad to hear the injection is doing its job. Everyone has to slow down sometime when the body says enough is enough….

Ah yes but could he get Special sausages ?
Aah, Did I ever tell you that I have Rob hooked on these sausages too now?. We discussed it this morning (as you do) and apparently the farm that supplies them is not too far from Truro and they have a farm shop on site. So there will be frequent visits to stock up on supplies. I'll probably need to freeze them but the new kitchen has a built in fridge freezer to add to my own so I'll have plebty of capacity.

Don't mention the pasties he ambushes anyone to get to his favourite pasty place ,worth the trip though .
Gear farm is also Rob's favourite pasty now (yes I'm a bad influence) so there'll no doubt be occasional trips to The Lizard. It's a lot further from Truro though and not the same scenic drive through the Cornish backwaters that you may recall. But there'll also be a lot more choice for pastes in the City so I'm looking forward to new discoveries.

Morning everyone,

Not much to say except that last week of the RS going out of 2 cups and the resulting meltdown of kopites has given me so much pleasure.

I guess deep down it's a bit pathetic and Mrs J just doesn't get it but I really don't care.

Have a lovely day everyone.
Made up they lost to PSG but pretty much indifferent to yesterday's result as I can't stand Newcastle either.

Well a last minute decision has found us in Fowey having decided if I have to rest I might as well do it with a better view than Wigan. Plus it’s our wedding anniversary tomorrow (36 years, 40 since we met). There’s something magical about looking at the river/sea and I love all the boats that go past. The blue and White House is where Daphne Du Maurier lived. Happy St Patrick’s Day too for those who celebrate 💙View attachment 299283
Aah Daphne's house. Was that taken from the car ferry? If you manage to make it down as far as Falmouth let me know and I'll jump the bus in. and treat you and Mr P to some of Cornwall's finest ales.

Have a great anniversary tomorrow. If you're partial to fish/seafood I can highly recommend Sam's on the Beach near Par for lunch.

It’s lovely isn’t it, we’ve been coming here for years and I too love the Roseland peninsula. Not sure if the ferry is running but are going for a wander later so will suss it out
If the river isn't too choppy you can take the ferry across to Polruan. It's quaint and there's not much there but the views of Fowey from the river are absolutely stunning.
