Jags was a great servant, and like I said, for reliability, loyalty, longevity, and effort, he was a top pro and definitely a fan favourite. But i just sometimes struggle with the way some people are built up to be greater than their ability while others are routinely dismissed as utter garbage. For instance, the majority of Walter Smiths teams, and most of Martinez teams are just ranked as crap with no real analysis of what they were capable of. Lots of that is down to the success and the blend of the side they played in. A poor side, and instantly, everyone who played in it was League 1 level. A decent side, and instantly they are all top class. I just find it interesting.

Like I say, Jags had many qualities, all listed above, as well as being very quick, and as someone who scored THAT goal, he will always, rightly be fondly remembered. But that doesn't take away the memories and frustrations I had at the time, watching him, with long diagonal passes or the inevitable turn and pass back to Howard.

My point on Keane, is that at the very least, I can say without doubt, that he is the best defender in the air that we have had in a long time. What was Jagielka best at that made him a class apart, other than professionalism and pace?

Was really excited when he came over from Burnley and for a while there it turned out to be a little disappointing but I tell you what, he has really under turned it around under Carlo. He plays well in the air and always seems like he has it under control out there. He’s been my biggest surprise these first two games and I expect him to have a big season.

Remember he did have a god awful injury to get better from. Personally I think he will end be a long time servant to the club like jags.

His reading of the game - was good at seeing danger and snuffing it out, got tight to forwards and wasn't turned as easily as Keane or Mina
