Ha possibly. For me a yard dog is your typical blood and thunder pub player. Will stick his head in anywhere, will hoof the ball upfield every chance he gets and couldn't trap a bag of cement. Keane is actually a fairly gifted footballer but I find him very weak for a centre back.
He should be left out to grass !!

I don't think we'd concede less often with this backline and I'm not sure it would be a great strategy for developing any of them further either.
Why? Are they any less able than Mina and Keane? Are they less able to adapt to new ideas?
I’d say they are our future based on what we currently have, and that each has very good potential. All three are more mobile than Keane and Mina, quicker than them and are more likely to be desperate to make it at Everton. All good objective reasons why they’d be worth a try

Yes.

Holgate is fine. Branthwaite is talented but clearly still a bit lacking in the experience necessary. I genuinely don't know about Godfrey but I don't feel good. So they could be our future but really it is quite possible that they aren't. I wouldn't give up on this year in that manner yet.

DCL used to be our biggest Rorschach blot.

I think it's Keane now. If you collected our posts and took all of the names out, the reader would think one of three things:

- we're discussing more than one player
- the posts are the handiwork of someone who is seriously mental
- the posts are out of order and the fanbase really turned on the player

It's hard to fathom this spectrum of opinions. I wonder if some of the real veterans remember other players where the forum was this divided? I would guess that Tim Howard was one.

Lukaku. Boss slotter or club footed lazy git?

Barkley was another to split opinion, pre-rat days

Those are recent enough that I think I'm on record as:

Lukaku: boss against 7-20, rubbish against 1-6 - overall worth for the points generation, but you need a Plan B to get to Europe
Barkley pre-rat: thumbs up

He had two years to run, it wouldn’t have been letting him go.

You're usually forgoing 50-70% of sell-on if you let it run down to 1 year, so you need a really good reason to let it run down to 1. See: rat.

He is what he is: a reasonable premier league centre back with limitations. It can be temping to look at his fee, but at the time his stock was high, he wasplaying regularly in the Premier league, and it wasn't the craziest fee out there for a well regarded young English player in his position. Maguire and Stones can take a bow on the latter. Honourable mention to Kyle Walker at full back.

Having said that, we have brought better in thst position in recent history. Admittedly a different time with different market dynamics, but Distin, Jagielka, Yobo and I'd even say Heitinga were better players. Be interesting to see their value in today's market.

Looking at the replay of the goal. Keane just stands there and turns his back on the ball and a quarter effort to block it. Then turns to team mates and puts his hands out. Disgraceful.
