Been putting in skipper performances for a while now, solid and unfussy just how a CB should be. I like that he is willing to carry the ball forward when not much else is on.

The big thing is his performances haven't dropped when the fans have come back, which did have me worried, as he often looked ruined before a ball was kicked - hopefully his current on field displays show the mental aspects of his game are all sorted now.

Will always look a bit ropey against pace, but that goes for most CBS - he's playing very well indeed.

The shift in his mentality seems to have coincided with him having a kid. He's playing like an adult now. Taking responsibility and leading from the front.

I had him written off completely so I'm delighted to see him playing at this level consistently. I'd go as far to say he's one of our better players at this stage. Rock solid game after game, and has somehow turned in to jarg Beckenbauer on the ball.

Didn't know that mate.

Makes sense - I certainly grew up when I had my lad, so long may it continue.

It's the responsibility he's taking with the ball, and that he's not scared to bring it out when sod all's on - been quality this season.

There was an article in The Athletic about it just as the first lockdown was ending. The journalist there seemed to be hearing things suggesting a mentality shift from him. He used most of that first lockdown to work with a previous coach (I think United coach) on parts of his game. The change seemed to converge with him having a kid and Carlo's almighty presence.

It's incredible what hard work and the right attitude can do for a player. DCL being another example of that, who was immense again today.

Funnily enough, hes a very Serie A 90s centre back.

Fantastic when deep...

Play a high line and hes a liability.

This setup is definitely suiting our defenders...
