We've kept 1 clean sheet since he's been brought in.

And he's not better at edge of the box defending than Coady or Mina.

The thing keeping us in games previously was Tarko and Coady putting in more blocks and tackles than any defenders in the league for months.

It's also a reason why our goal difference is better than the teams around us because like it or not...under Lampard we were never 100% out of games minus the Bournemouth ones. We were losing games by 1 goal at most. Our chronic lack of goals, inexperience, and terrible attacking play didn't help under him either.
He’s is a better edge of the box defender than Coady, far better in the air, probably Coady’s biggest weakness as a centre back.

Dyche isn’t going to play a centre back of they’re weak in the air, he just isn’t. Which means Godfrey, Holgate and Coady aren’t options.

I didn’t mention Mina, he obviously is a player you’d think would suit Dycheball so wonder what’s gone on that he’s not getting a look in.

He’s been mainly fine since he came in, o don’t think it’s fair to say we’ve had one clean sheet because of him. We’ve generally been in games until the last couple where we’ve been embarrassed by the manager’s formation change and odd selections.

We need Onana and Doucoure back in centre midfield pronto and get back 451, that’s our biggest issue from a defensive point of view.

Burnley fan here. Keane was an excellent CB for us but had the advantage of playing alongside Ben Mee when he was at his best. When you signed Tarks you should have taken Mee as well there was not a better pair of CB,s in the country. Good luck in your relegation fight but it starting to look dodgy. UTC

Lukaku destroyed him...then we signed him

If we were going to play a deep defensive line then yeah Mee and Tarkowski would have made sense...both free.

Then sold Keane and Holgate for example.

Average goals conceded per game this season:

Without Keane: 1.33
With Keane: 2.00

Not sure what Dyche is seeing tbh.

Yeah because we kept it tight for a spell at the start of the season but that fell away, didn’t it.

I’ve not really got a problem with Dyche picking Keane, he suits his set up and is a way better edge of the box defender than Godfrey, Holgate or Coady. We were doing fine up until the last two games.

Last couple of games, the defence hasn’t been the root cause - it’s what we’ve seen for a number of seasons i.e. playing through our forwards too easily and exposing the midfield which in turn exposes the back line.

Coady hit poor form aftet the WC.

We can all see why Keane might be picked in a deep defence. In some cases its perhaps worth the major error he makes per 90mins.

But to be picked ahead of Mina...or to not revert to a 3 CB setup to provide protection for him...

...its peculiar.

For a played to start 8 league games and the team concede 18 goals.

The stats dont lie.

Anybody thinking Michael Keane is the problem is fooling themselves.
We played until the end of January without him and that was even worse than it is now.

On Saturday we could not cope with the absence of Coleman, Onana and Doucoure.

As soon as I heard the team I knew we were in trouble.

I think the manager got it wrong, I felt he should have packed midfield, closed down the game.
As it turns out after the weekend a point would have been alright.

Godfrey is the worst player in the squad in the air.

The issue has been the last few games is that we're not defending edge of the box though. We're playing a higher line with Keane in there and he's awful at it.

Sitting deeper he's fine but apart from being better in the air than Coady, Coady still is a better defender at everything else.

Agree, like I said, the last couple games haven’t been much to do with Keane, it’s the way Dyche has changed the set up of the team. If you play a high line and have zero pressure on the ball from the front two and the midfield get time to pick balls, they’re going to make most defenders look silly. See Liverpool this season for example.

There was a comparison article a few weeks ago looking at Keane and Coady’s stats and why Dyche had brought him into the team - Keane was coming out higher than Coady in all areas important to defending the edge of the box and the way Dyche sets his teams up. I don’t think Coady’s a terrible player, just not ideal for Dyche.

We don’t need to go to a back 3, we’re terrible at that. That’s the last thing we need. We just need to get back to the low defence, packed midfield 5 that actually protect the back four and get Onana and Doucs back in the team asap.

Keane and tarks were like Sunday league defenders for Fulham's 3rd ,I would stick Keane up front, less of a liability and better than maupay ,but then who isn't .

Yeah. Get that.

Ive just never rated Keane. Been here 6 years and his highlights are being dropped for Mason Holgate, a worldie against spurs, and 2 relegation fights.

Overall in a football sense, Coady is/was a needed upgrade in a functional football team though.

Said the same last season....Regardless of which league we're in, having any one of Keane, Godfrey, Coleman, Holgate in defence next season are the ingredients for failure.
