He is 29 years old people thinking he needs someone alongside him to guide him through games is crazy
if i was the manager i would have no place for my center half who was mentally weak it might sound cruel but it is about getting results
He has all the physical attributes required, but he just cannot sense danger, is often out of position, not a leader, not vocal enough. In short, not good enough.

Mina is a waste of space and Godfrey when fit offers nothing, not below them at all, on par maybe but not below
Godfrey lacks a bit of craft and seems weirdly injury prone for a lad with a great physique. Needs time in the reserves and cup games
Mina constantly lacks fitness and succumbs to new injury... expensive, would sell / loan
Keane. Inconsistent. Has scored and played well, other times poor.
Holgate isn't a massive CB but the best option of this group

So if we do need cover for Coady and Tarks, of all the above use Holgate / Keane in the short-term.
Mid-long term look to build Godfrey / Branthwaite or move 'em along.

Like the look of the back line so far but much like Michael Keane himself, I'm petrified that he might get on the pitch this season with our luck. With that thought and Costa signing for Wolves this morning I just had a look at free agents for the sake of it and seems like Denayer who was at Lyon and Zagadou who was at Dortmund still don't have clubs.

Genuinely curious why the club wouldn't have gone for them, esepcially with the injuries we've had so far as well as the fact Mina is most likely out of contract at the end of the season too, as well as Forest apparently having had an interest in Keane in the last few days of the window. Seems like they'd be no brainer signings for us at the minute at 3rd choice CB, if not getting both.

…I think he has a bit of ego, I recall him contacting Southgate when left out of an England squad so I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s been knocking on Lampard’s door.

Playing on that ego might be our best route to moving him on in January.
I don’t mind this knocking on door business. Usually it’s get feed back “what do you want me to do / improve on to get back in contention”
It’s shows willingness and intellengence rather then ego

It was certainly prudent keeping him around with the injuries to Mina and Godfrey, but you would imagine this is Keane and Minas last season at the club.

Depends how well Coady and Tarks continue to do.

But Godfrey and Holgate are more than able back-ups if need be.

Although, and I say this every season, but Holgate and potentially Godfrey might wish to move on if they find themselves kissing pine for long periods.

As for Keane, at times hes had some quite shocking performances, but on the main I think hes been a very decent player for us and all his good is forgotten due to how bad his bad is, shame.

One thing that stood out to me about him was he was one of our few weapons offensively and that is pathetic having a center back take on that role. We were taint.

Imagine if Keane and Mina could have stayed healthy for once and built up chemistry though. They were very dangerous in the air together and we would have been unstoppable with them and Dom in the air.

Can't totally disagree, but the bulk of the 'likes, of' gang didn't do anything important re us staying up, and Gomes actually had to be dragged off half way through the Palace game where Keane scored an excellent goal to spark the comeback.

True, but I’m not about the make a hero out of anyone that was a major part of the reason we nearly went down.
