Lot of clubs are thin at the position to varying degrees, but Keane doesn't really fit any of them. Leicester is skint, Chelsea made their moves (and never for Keane) and the rest of the clubs won't take on Keane's level of wages. Can't see who would be buying him?, I suppose a northern championship side would suit him but non of them paying 70 grand a week wages and sure he doesn't love football enough to take a major drop
Arguably, the biggest lesson of the Moshiri era is that you almost never want to be the big payday contract for a player in terms of wages. You can buy them before then, because it's possible to sell them on to someone that will pay higher wages. You can take them on afterwards, because you can often pick up short-term quality on a low or zero transfer fee. If you're going to be the big contract, though, you have to be sure.
If you're buying Ronaldo from United, yeah, sure, do that. If you're buying in our range, you could get Richarlison but you could also get Gomes. The whiffs are just too costly, in terms of dead wages and fees, and the hits don't make up for it.
