2024/25 Michael Keane

…I wouldn’t have started him yesterday. You have to pick your strongest team and the additional thing with Branthwaite is he clearly makes Tarkowski and Mykolenko look better.

I don't think Franco Baresi would have made Tarkwoski and Mykolenko look any better yesterday, they were absolutely wretched.

Normally I'd say "yeah, that's because of Keane", but they were dreadful in every metric the eye measures a players performance.

Shocking from them both and it says something when I say Keane deserves to keep the shirt in front of Tarkowski

Is he literally one of those players who grew up as a striker then played a few games CB and it just stuck?

….it’s usually a case of them being short of good enough as a striker so they try them elsewhere. John Hurst was a fantastic CB for us in arguably our greatest ever title winning team, yet he was centre forward when we won the FA Youth Cup in ‘65. Many of the greatest full backs started out as wingers, Tony Hibbert was a CM when we won the Youth Cup.

Even the some of the best Everton teams stuck the centre half upfront., when chasing a game.
Just following in the fine tradition of Mick Lyons and Derek Mountfield.
Mick Lyons was the leading goalscorer one season, if my memory serves me well?

Teams in the 70s putting centre backs up front does not excuse a team doing it in 2024. Even at Northern Premier League West level teams don’t do that.

Tony as a kid started as a CF - ironical, he never scored a league goal for us ....

And how many times have Keane's goals pulled us out of the do do?. Most Long ball teams would do it . Barcelona used to do it with Pique. If they were chasing a game.

United did it with Maguire, don't see the issue at all. Keane has a brilliant finish and it can cause utter confusion at the back, seriously doubt Fulham defenders expected it also. Some people just love the sound of their own moaning on here.

Mate I’m not being funny but you live in the relegation thread losing your marbles every time Leicester/Luton/Leeds/Burnley win a corner
