2024/25 Michael Keane

Every other defender would have higher ratings if they weren’t playing alongside him.

I agree but i can see how someone just looks at the stats and says hes had a good start to the season.

Ultimately if wed had branthwaite in there i think wed obviously of conceded less but i dount it of changed the results.

I've done the maths.

Since Sean Dyche joined Micheal Keane has played 26 hours and 19 minutes of Premier League football.

That's roughly 17.5 full 90 minute games.

When he's been playing, I've taken into account when he's been subbed on / off and when goals have been conceded, the team have conceded 41 goals.

Everton have conceded 2.34 goals per game when he plays.

But he has premier league experience; that clearly helps doesn’t it

That’s all the opta-bellwhiffs do, look at stats, same as Dyche with his Xg poo.

I don’t need stats to see Keane is a very bad central defender, with not many positive attributes apart from his height ( which doesn’t seem to help him win headers) and a decent strike/finish now and again ( not the most important attribute for a cb).

I do know He’s positionally atrocious, makes terrible decisions, has very little pace to recover linked to a very weak mindset, which means he unsettles and makes every player he’s alongside in the defence, plus the keeper, play much worse than they would normally.

Let’s work this out logically and see the opposing sides of the argument:

A;
We concede an average of 2 goals a game when he’s in the squad, he has no pace or awareness and constantly loses his markers. This has been consistent since his arrival 7 years ago.

B:
Stats say he’s good

I’m with argument A

Not great as individuals our defence. But at least have proved they can keep things tight at the back as a group. Until keane plays. We're all over the place when he starts.
Coincidence? I think not.

Good work.

I would also suspect that where JP makes circa 2-3 unforced handling/positional errors leading to goals conceded per season that there is a strong correlation to such occasions and those when Keane is playing. The man is literally a points handicap to us each season.

We’d have been able to get rid of him years ago if we hadn’t have gone so over the top just because he had a few half decent games during lockdown.
