2024/25 Michael Keane

….i’ve been his biggest critic, probably the first to put my case when his stock was reasonably high a number of years ago but I think blaming him for Saturday’s defeat is wide of the mark. There’s probably a case to say he was the best performer of the back four, certainly less culpable than the two full backs.

I want him gone as much as the most.
Yep, we all get nervous about him but objectively he was fine on sat and can't really be blamed for the hideous left back next to him or numerous missed chances from team mates

For approximately the 8 millionth time:

The ball watching for the winning goal sums up exactly why he’s so bad. Most people won’t see that as a direct error, and it won’t be recorded on the stats as one, but a proper centre half is scanning the area, seeing the lad ghosting in at the back post and putting himself in a position to clear the cross. He doesn’t have a clue the lad is there, because he hasn’t checked over his shoulder. This is what people are talking about when they say he causes us to leak 3+ goals per game, it’s little things like this rather than outwardly booting it in his own net or playing a striker clean through.

People have been telling me he’s been “fine” because he hasn’t made a direct howler that’s gifted the opposition a goal, but he hasn’t been fine because he’s not been doing basic duties that a centre back should be doing. It’s just about understanding the game really.

You see I think he does do all the above most of the time, but as soon as it becomes a pressurised situation a switch gets flipped in his head and then you're absolutely spot on.

It's sad really, to have the talent to be a PL player but simply not have the mentality.

Thankfully for all concerned this will be his final season.

Will go to Celtic or Eredivisie club. Championship clubs will have seen enough to pass up the opportunity.
Celtic have already been stung with ex everton cast offs in recent years.. wee Jonjoe and big Shane will have scrubbed all the goodwill they had from Stubbsy.
Brendan doesn't want that bag of nerves around the place.. Rangers on the otherhand 🥴

I agree with you eggs but as another poster put it so eloquently previously the mere fact he's playing has a profound effect on those around him.
I have not been too big a critic of Dyche but he simply cannot play Keane again he really is that much of an all round liability.
