Aside from Twitter, when is that symbol supposed to be used? Always wondered why it exists.

The at sign, @, normally read aloud as "at", also commonly called the at symbol or commercial at, was originally an accounting and commercial invoice abbreviation meaning "at a rate of" (e.g. 7 widgets @ £2 = £14). In contemporary use, the at sign is most commonly used in email addresses and social media platform handles. It was not included on the keyboard of the earliest commercially successful typewriters, but was on at least one 1889 model[1] and the very successful Underwood models from the "Underwood No. 5" in 1900 onward. It is now universally included on computer keyboards.

Wiki explanation.

Im at the dentist earlier. Just a check up. Known him years, he practices privately. Sound fella. He's talking about footy and moaning about the cost of tickets for him and his lad, and how he feels forced to keep a season ticket on.

Then charges me £32 for 10 mins work..

Cheeky get must be on abar £200 an hour FFS.
Just has a quote from a plasterer, friend if a friend etc. to skim 2 rooms. £600. Everybody says that's very reasonable.
Now I appreciate the skill needed in plastering, i've done some myself, and a good friend of new shoes is called challenge. Possibly it's a day and a half's work. £600 though less £20 with of plaster. It took me a week as head of department in a secondary school to earn that!
Honestly, what's the point of a 4 year university education?

Its skilled work and hard graft to boot. esp doing in day in day out. and all the health hazards that come with the job.

Being a skilled tradesman myself i cant see why people begrudge us being able to earn too money.. Working in all weather and conditions on top of the hard narure of the work.

The damage it does to your health is a lot worse than people think. Plastering must be pretty knackering.

I've got a damaged back from bricklaying and I only did it for 10 years, only 5 of which being full time. Glad I got out of it when I did for that reason.

I wouldn't do it myself if I were you. Plastering is no easy skill. You'll probably end up with substandard work. Better to pay the craftsman (reasonable price btw).

£600 sounds high to me. We got the walls and ceiling of the landing done for £150.

Sometimes they quote crazy numbers cos they don't want the job (usually got something better lined up), but they'd take the job if you foolishly accept their crazy figure.

Do it yourself and then pay him twice as much to sort out your mess.

As for your 4 year Uni education. Obviously you didn't learn any respect for skilled tradesmen there.

Also 'less £20 of plaster'

Koff.

Also, liability insurance, van, road tax, insurance, tools, putting up with smug teacher types thinking they're better than him cos they used to teach a few sprogs, pretending to laugh at your [Poor language removed] jokes cos he knows you're the kind of busy body to go over his work with a fine tooth comb before you'll pay him.

I hope you do it yourself and ruin your carpet.
