colleague I share an office with won't have air coniditioning on in 30 degree heat because it "makes her sick". Last week was under 20 and she had all the windows open. It was 'kin freezing. Bizarre behaviour. Meanwhile my armpits are like running taps

Women that mate, never met one yet with a proper working thermostat, its either *whiney voice...I'm too hot...or...I'm too cold.

employees shouldn't be able to adjust the temperature, the whole office should be kept at a constant temperature all year, 20 degrees or whatever, whether that means heating or air con is working to achieve that. That way there's no arguments

With this one it's not even that. If she gets cold from fresh air - fine. Getting cold from aircon makes her sick. 'Kinell.
Obviously me getting heatstroke is a fair price to pay to stop her from having a sneeze every now and then

That's a good idea. Sadly no one thought of that.

Before I left the rat-race I found HR to either be cheerfully useless or actively mendacious in every job I ever had.

HR has been controlled by certain heirachys especially in the construction idustry. There's no fair decisions etc

The construction industry is utterly ruthless with sackings. They often just bin you off give you a payout. There’s work everywhere though so you can get another job in a week or two.

Yes mate I experienced that myself, was a merger and higher up wanted their own People, wasn't a good experience. Glad I got out of it.

The last company I worked for were utter bullies and would give you ridiculous targets then tear you down in front of the whole office for not achieving them. They’d try and push people out. Awful ‘family run’ company.

This is the first site I’ve been on as a manager where I’ve not had someone roaring at me on a daily/weekly basis.

Messaged HR telling and asking about how I was being treated, they where manipulative and in on the whole thing.

Always remember... HR are there to protect the company from you not the other way around.

I completely recognise what you're saying, though. If they want you out they'll find a way, and the way is never an honest conversation
