minor things that make you fume

I commuted from Kilkenny to Dublin by train for over 5 years. Idiots shouting on their mobile phones really tee'd me off. I would really advocate some Quiet carriages where phones and talking are banned - probably crisps too

I travel on train a lot and the etiquette here is ridiculous. I was next to someone who was constantly taking work calls the whole way on the quiet carriage. Luckily I had noise cancelling head phones.

People will play music off their phones or play videos.

Someone at work said in Switzerland / Germany they would not tolerate it.

My brother has lived in Switzerland since 1992. If you have neighbours nearby - an apartment block for example, no flushing of toilets after 10 pm. He once got an anonymous note under his door complaining about his car door being closed too loudly after 10 pm - by now he had a detached house!! They really are a bit anal.

I have travelled on Swiss trains quite lot but never found a quiet carriage. But they are still quiet people in the carriages.

Rules are for sheep though eh?

I just don't use airports. It saves all the rules, the hassle, the expense, the judgement, the being ripped off by car park owners, taxis governments, "duty free-profit rich" merchants, the lost baggage etc. Honestly - I see nothing currently good enough anywhere on the planet to tempt me into an airport.

We share the planet. We're not on it for long. Travel should be unfettered.

I went to Europe earlier this year

Went Airport. Hand luggage. Twenty minutes of security. Got on a flight. Lasted less than two hours. Had to wear a mask but that's alright. Had a couple beers.

Boom, freedom. Same on way back. Burger King in the country I went to were serving beers in the airport for home it was pretty great. Didn't experience anything you describe.

You are probably more bothered by this mental concept than the actual reality of getting on a plane. I've done it more recently than you. Not gonna pretend it's some amazing liberating experience to board a bus that flies but well seeing mountains from your window while a bit tipsy isn't bad at all. That's without the actual 'being in a foreign country bit' which was brilliant but you wouldn't get that far haha

That's the Internet isn't it though haha. You've got people who actually go out and do things. The rest whine about stuff they've either done once or not done or have done badly and let it scar them

I've been abroad many times. Its always enjoyable apart from the UK airport experience. Once the cost to park for a week was the same cost as the holiday. From then on I went with my car, via ferry. Much better experience- and although fuel costs were higher, taking the car, I saw more and enjoyed greater freedom. Depends what you're after. If you're flying to sit in a hotel with other brits and get rat arsed then you wouldn't need a car. If you like to explore on the other hand.

I am not too sure, here we have our fair amount of oblivious teens, etc. who think it is OK to do that kind of stuff and nobody says much.

Although it does bring to mind something funny that happened on a German train. Now and again you get some buskers come on the train and play for a very short period of time. I have only seen them twice, the first time people accepted them or ignored them. The second time, an old fella shot straight up before they could play a note and shouted extremely loudly, while pointing his finger, 'Nein', repeatedly. They shuffled off back the way the came, heads down in disappointment.

Inappropriate Language
The sound of flip-flops in use. Is that time of year when as soon as it gets above 12 degs, every f**ker is wearing them. In fact, am going to add feet to this whinge too, as most are disgusting and unsightly (mine included, which is why in public they are very much covered).
