Just got to hope when i do get to the bank that birth certificate and whatever letters i have are sufficient enouhg, also can provide 3 years worth of pay slips to prove income lol
How can you have pay slips with no bank account? How does an adult have no bank account in this day and age? I'm confused here.

the short version is no overdraft, bank gave overdraft anyway, charged me at a random time in the month, had no money to pay charge at that time in the month, charged me for then charging me. Cycle threatened to get bigger so closed account down, now opening new one but need to go into branch.

Happening today.

I have a day off but have to collect an elderly relative from hospital. So I'm caught in the big impersonal couldn't give a toss NHS machine waiting for a call that may be 5 mins or may be 5 hours

Its still morning but I know my planned day of lounging about having a bet and chatting to the lads is already a pipedream. Easier on the nerves to be at work.

Given Account Switching takes about 7 days, why didn't you just switch account rather than closing and re-opening? At least you'd have a bank account in the meantime.

On the subject of banks they are cheeky barstards aren't they? (I'm allowed to say this as I work for one).

I got a loan out to pay for a bit of the wedding and that, and I've just about finished paying it, like 2 payments to go, so as soon as I log onto my online banking a massive thing pops up saying 'oh hi you've nearly finished paying your loan off- WANT ANOTHER ONE?!'

Do one.

I had to otherwise they would have been charging me like 200 quid out my wages. Doing it my way im paying them a tenner a month to clear it whilst my wages are largely untouched.

My Dad used to work for Provident Loans, and this was exactly how they operated. They'd encourage you to clear the tail-end of your loan with a new loan at an ever-so-slightly improved rate. This was low level 3-figure loans for poor folk and their APR was nothing like Wonga, but it did keep people in a cycle of debt - although the fact of the matter is they needed the loan to keep afloat, and didn't mind so long as they could service the debt.

Want to walk into brighthouse or perfect home mate. they pray on the poor! My father in law is forever in their debt and he is too blind to see it.

Was there once where they told him oh mr jones, we see your nintendo wii is nearly up, want to pick another item and you dont have to pay until the wii finishes? .........He walked out with a 40 odd inch tv under his arm!

Your bank offers money, mine steals it. I wrote a check for $200 for my utilities, the same as it is every month. Some nitwit cashed my check for $2,000 so I had to waste my time having to prove to them that it does not cost $2,000 to light my house and whatnot. The kicker is my checkbook makes carbon copies as you write so I had a proof that the check was only $200. Still took them 4 months to refund my money. Needless to say I switched banks.

Yup - I don't work anywhere near the lending side but i'm not comfortable with the 'selling' of any lending product. For me, you get a loan or a credit card if you really need them, and that's it.

However, the fact they're offering me more borrowing must mean I have decent credit. Made up here.

I had a credit card with a £1500 limit on it. First two payments I made were well over the minimum payment amount, and they suddenly upped my limit to £7k! Mental.
