Minor things that make you happy

My Nana has just had a major operation yesterday, I went into the hospital to see her today, but she was completely zonked out on all the painkillers.

In the room she is in, there was an old woman. She didn't have kids and wasn't married. I felt really sorry for her.

As there wasn't any talking to my Nana, I ended up talking to her. She was Dutch, but has lived in England for 42 years. From Arnhem originally. She's also lived in Indonesia, Costa Rica and Suriname.

Her stories were amazing. She really has lived a brilliant life.

One of the nicest and most interesting people I have ever spoken to in my life.

Her stories about the WWII from a Dutch perspective were really interesting.

last year on the way to Toronto I ended up sitting next to an old lady on the plane, she was dying to chat ...turns out she was a survivor of Auschwitz, must be one of the few left. I'm interested in the wars anyway and to hear the stories of what she went through from her first hand was amazing, something I didn't think I would ever hear. She wore the same clothes for years and her whole family were killed in there and she had to make a life for herself moving to Czechoslovakia when she got out, still only a child. Must have been beyond awful being in there with little or no hope, waiting til its your turn to be gassed.

Wowzer, must have been something else talking to her. Makes you appreciate life when you talk to people who've been through hell, and she certainly has.

Finishing callout week. Yay
been there done that - dreaded the phone call - they seem to smell when you've had a couple of drinks, coz hey, nobody's going to ring now.

one day I'd done 11 hrs straight, went home, 50 mins drive, was just about to put the key in the door and off went the phone...about turn, L, R, L, R.
That did it, sod the money, started looking for a new job.
Did'nt take too long, threw a rare sickie for both interviews. Trouble was I could never find the best time to break the 'bad news' then one day the grand poobah had all the senior head of depts in for a severe ear bashing ending in and if anybody doesn't think they can work under these terms they can go today, after lunch... in fact I'll give them a bonus and a 'kin reference...right 'koff and start getting it right (he was that sort)

as they were all filing out all supposedly suitably chastened Degsy piped up...er Harry, about that offer...where do I sign.
