Minor things that make you happy

This might be a stupid question mate, but what’s a pan of scouse? Being a southern blue I’ve got no idea.
By the way...let us know what the pickled egg is like....I’ve always thought about trying one but never got round to it.

You really don’t know what you are missing! God’s food!

Traditionally, it's a beef stew that's slowly cooked with some potatoes, carrots, onion and turnip, with some seasoning and a bay leaf etc. I like a bit of pepper too.

You can swap the beef for lamb if you wish, but that's more of an Irish stew recipe. It's amazing with some fresh, crusty bread and red cabbage or beet root.

I usually throw it in the slow cooker for around eight to ten hours and the meat is so tender, and it's thoroughly enjoyable on a cold, drab evening.

Thanks for that mate...I’m now hungry! You’re right, fresh crusty bread is an absolute must with a good stew. I make a beef stew that is probably quite similar to the one you describe, again I slow cook it. And it’s got some red wine in it for a bit of extra body. Served with fresh mash and crusty bread. Can’t beat it, especially at this time of year as you say.

Not stew, but a very quick and tasty meal on a cold day is: Tin of Heinz Beef Broth. Crumble one (or two) Oxo cubes and stir in well. I have it with a couple of slices of toast but only because I don't usually have any crusty bread. Bit of pepper on top helps I find. I have also used Bovril when I have had no Oxo cubes. Just as good.

Listening (in horror) to the answers of some contestants on game shows.

Proof positive that people no longer read books.

One beaut on Tipping point reckoned that you bought clothes in a speakeasy.
Watch Only Connect and University Challenge on a Monday evening. I once got fourteen questions correct from an episode of UC, and I felt like a king.

Some of the stuff they know however simply amazes me and especially the breadth of subjects in which they have a pretty comprehensive knowledge.

Those two shows certainly give the brain a workout. If I ever get anything right I feel over the moon!!

That fella was so annoying ; his laugh was the spit of the character from Alan Partridge.

Watching Kyren Wilson give a respectful speech after getting utterly ruined in the snooker final.

Surprised I didn't have tickets for this final session at full price, as it only lasted 25 mins. I can see Everton shirts in the crowd though.
