I have to disagree on Alston. He's not Marvel Wynne, but he's out of position quite a bit and offers very little going forward. He's a good athlete and can defend one on one, but lacks defensive awareness. I'd honestly be shocked if he beats out Spector, Lichaj and Franklin in 4 years. Heck, I'm not sure Cherundolo isn't still the best option.
The CCL conflicts robbed MLS of some of its best players, so while I'm sure there will be a lot of "the entire league can't field a team that can compete with ManU" it's just not the case. And regardless of the conflicts, I don't see how guys like Moreno, Le Toux and Pappa can be named to an all star team. Good players in the league, but can't compete at this level.
I think the MLS squad that started the second half was better than the one that started the match. Schelotto and Morales would never work. I'm glad that many got to see Shalrie Joseph play though, he was excellent.
Marshall was solid on defense imo, and had his normal dominance on set plays. I hope he and Goodson get a real shot to start in the next cycle, the US could really use them on corners.
