Really big blow with the new season coming up, hopefully beattie steps in and does a job :)

Can 4-5-1 though.

exactly 4-5-1 AJ solo, cahill pushing forward.

if vogel is as cultured and capable as he is renown to be then him and cars sat in the middle sweeping up the danger and allowing arteta pienaar/vdm the ball on the flanks.

last season was built on our brilliant capacity of not conceding - that confidence for the attackers relieves a lot of pressure - and when players are relaxed they can play well.

pop quiz hotshots : AJ scored a few headers at palace, has he scored a competative first team header for us yet?

Didnt he score one against Reading or someone similarly [Poor language removed]?

Bad news about Vaughan, with regards to the estimation of time he will be out, naturally the club will always prepare for the worst and hope for the best. I would think he will be in contention in September.

In his absence Anichebe is looking good and should be given his chance, he is the most natural foil for Johnson we have.

Anichebe does seem like a natural compliment to Johnson as a power guy to balance the pacey one. Put Anichebe on the box with his back to the goal, feed him for a back pass to an on rushing Johnson who is at his best running at defenders.

Agreed FC the Beattie Anichebe pairing after Vaughan went down won't do it. Both similar. I had picked Anichebe to complement Johnson. I think Vaughan is similar to Johnson in a lot of respects but doesn't chase the lost cause like AJ does. Younger players pushing for position in Agaird & Jutkiewicz should round out a enviable position for Moyes for the future. I'm not inclined to jump for a striker with Vaughan down for a month or so.

Chances are Bruce you will be right. Especially on away games or home games when the so called league of four comes to visit. Perhaps with some new blood we will give ourselves the ability to open up more and dictate the game a little.

IMO regardless of who we might or might not sign, with the young players that have been used in pre season and the current older staff we appear to have quite a few options on the field. Injuries though are the bug bear just like Vaughan and AJ is not fit yet.

I have decide though even in the light of this mini crisis with Vaughan out,

Beattie is not fit for purpose.

Shame for him, he's had a rough run with injuries in his short career. Probably means that BT won't be up for sale now, until January at least.

Not entirely true, moyes has a tendency to sell even though numbers are short. Davies and naysmith are few examples when the price is right.

Or unless we sign Smith, in which case I'm sure BT would be gone. I agree with Bruce though that if no-one else comes in, BT will be staying for now.
