Montreal and Toronto

I live in Ottawa.

Montreal is an infinitely more fun city than Toronto in my opinion.

I would spend most of your time in Montreal.

Niagara falls is definitely a day trip you can do from Toronto it takes around an hour and a half to two hours to get there from Toronto depending on the traffic.

I assume you're going to be driving from Montreal to Toronto? Good luck with the 401 it is a nightmare.

Montreal always has lots of stuff going on as far as concerts and things to do.

Toronto has the Blue Jays, the maple leafs, I would recommend Ripley's Aquarium for a few hours.

Both are big cities though and have events happening frequently.
Thanks, Montreal does seem to be more appealing for a tourist, which is funny because it is a city that has never even crossed my mind as a destination before.

We will actually be getting the train between them - 5 or 6 hours of watching the world go by is a lot more appealing that looking at the @rse of a truck while driving on the wrong side of the road for 6 hours

Me and the mrs are flying into Montreal in April, flying out of Toronto 9 days later.
What would be the best way to split time between the cities, and what are the must do things in each? Only thing we know we definitely want to do is Niagara falls.

Better now wthan January, you'd be freezing your cajones off. Canada's been on fire all summer, dunno how the air quality will be.

There are three NHL teams between Toronto and Montreal (the other is in Ottawa). Maple Leafs tickets are horribly expensive and the playoffs begin in April so good luck if you try and see them play. Senators would be the easiest ticket.

If you're looking for other sports, the Blue Jays and Raptors will still be in season. The Hockey Hall of Fame is also in Toronto, absolutely worth a few hours of your time.
North American sports don't really interest me, and all the razzamatazz during the games really annoys me.
Although my son loves basketball and goes for the Raptors, so may go to a game if they are playing just to wind him up.

Book a table for a meal in the CN tower. I did it in 2015. I remember it being pricey but a good experience.
We did a day trip to Niagara Falls on a coach with a couple of interesting stops on the way.
We then flew to Boston.

Don't worry about the french thing, everywhere you go basically has customer service in English.

It's super easy to get around on the metro in Montreal. Toronto is a bit more difficult as their transit system is a mess.

Hope you have a great trip! Depending on when you're coming you might be able to get a preseason hockey ticket cheaper in Montreal. I wouldn't bother with hockey in Toronto, impossible to get tickets and dead pricey.

Toronto is excellent! We did a Niagara Falls bus tour which included some wine tasting at a vineyard. Did a boat trip. We went for food and drinks in the distillery district which was also excellent. Would go back for sure, bars everywhere!

Some additional suggestions from my Canadian wife:
1) Royal Ontario Museum in Toronto
2) Blue Jays game at the Sky Dome (and she’s not a baseball fan)
3) Possibly visit Ottawa if you have the time (lots to see in a compact area)
4) Schwartz’s deli in Montreal
5) Vieux Montreal
6) If you like art, Group of Seven artists at the AGO (distinctly Canadian landscapes)

Great advice. My in-laws live in the next village over from St. Jacobs. Actually started our honeymoon at an inn in St. Jacobs
I never knew the name of the place until i seen this thread and googled farmers market near Kitchener/Waterloo and seen the pictures. Had a great day there back in 2007 and remeber getting blag UFC gear back as presents for my brother when you couldn't get that stuff here.

Thanks mate, much appreciated 👍

April could be freezing or warm, weather is mental here, if the weather is good as others have said I would highly recommend hitting Niagara on the lake for a wine tour, beautiful little town too. In Toronto get a raptors game in if you can, team is garbage now so tickets should be cheap. Check out the islands and you may aswell do the tower. Great food scene here, would reccomend checking out Kensington and getting some Tacos and jerk chicken. Other cool neighbourhoods to check out are leslieville, Danforth, distillery district, annex, little Italy. Be prepared to pay a lot here mate, six pints can easily set you back seventy bucks with tax and tips.
