Everton are set to make an improved £22 million bid for Morgan Schneiderlin after the midfielder told Manchester United he wants to move to Goodison Park.
The Toffees have had a £19m offer rejected for Schneiderlin but are ready to return with a new offer in the next 48 hours which will be closer to United’s £24m asking price.
United are confident of recouping all of the £24m they paid to sign Schneiderlin from Southampton in 2015, with West Brom also keen on the Frenchman having had an £18m bid rejected.
Schneiderlin, 27, has told the Red Devils that he would prefer to move to Everton and re-unite with his former Southampton manager Ronald Koeman as he looks to get his career back on track.
The France international is desperate for a move having made just three Premier League appearances this season and failed to make Jose Mourinho’s 18-man matchday squad for their last eight league matches.
Everton have been in talks with United over a deal for Schneiderlin since last month and are confident of completing the deal this month.
Koeman is keen to bolster his squad in January and will be backed by the Everton board, with 19-year-old winger Ademola Lookman already signed from Charlton for an initial £7.5m.
The Merseyside club remain interested in United outcast Memphis Depay but want to negotiate down the £25m asking price and salary demands worth more than £100,000 a week.
