For those of a certain generation the name Steve MacMahon will forever live in these sorts of lists.
Absolutely loved him when he was a blue.
Absolutely despised him when he moved to the dark side - Villa was just a buffer - he was always going to Anfield.
I'm not sure there is a player I have disliked more.
The frustrating thing with McMahon is that we weren't far away from success.

I don't hate Williamson. He looked to be a good buy when he came from West Ham.

But I am surprised by some of the players listed here.

Thought he might make list as someone who cost a lot of money over four seasons with zero return - but as you point out, not his fault.

Same as Gbamin, & he seems to raise the ire of many supporters.
Gbamin doesn't really help himself either though.

Absolutely love this. I remember he scored some weird long range goal that the keeper totally fluffed, an absolute fluke, then ran off celebrating like it was an absolute worldie. Rubbish winger.

There you go mate. Davies only goal for us. Actually gave us a rare win in what was a disastrous start to the 2005/06 season. I was there and he went over to the fans at the end throwing his shirt into the crowd as if he'd achieved something massive.

Abomination of a player.

Most amusing to see Abel Xavier's name pop up a few times.

Went he went over the park no-one was remotely arsed at the time. The most low-key transfer between us and that I can remember. Getting £800,000 for a squad player who was out of contract that summer anyway was decent business. Don't even think he was booed when he played against us at Anfield that same season.

He didn't last long at Liverpool. I most remember him for playing well in our 1999 derby win over there.

He played for Everton & Liverpool in the same season in both derbies only player to achieve this feat

When we played them after the move, everything went down his side because we knew how gash he was.

Thomas Myhre is worth throwing in to the conversation. Don’t remember him ever being particularly good, and he made a right balls of Dion Dublin’s header in the Coventry game. After that foof Barmby had missed his penalty, that keeper error extended the excruciating last few minutes to what felt like a lifetime.

Against Birmingham I think. Was our first win of the season when we had a bad Moyes season.

He was always terrible for us. Did we ever win a match he started?

Kind of weird he went to Fulham didn't really do anything different or add anything to his game but was good for them.

Most of the team from around 1979 - 81 was deplorable.

Imre Varadi
Peter Eastoe
Gary Stanley
Brian Kidd
Gary Megson
Geoff Nulty
Mickey Thomas
John Barton
Pat Heard
Mick Ferguson
Alan Biley
Mickey Walsh
Alan Ainscow

For those old enough to remember - it was very depressing.
