Moyes Admits We're Skint

I see absolutely no contradiction between BK's statement and what DM said. We have money, but not enough to compete with the silly money being spent by the [Poor language removed] and others - on wages as well as transfer fees. As FCConnecticut says, if you're trying to build a club that can compete and contend over the long term, you need stability and sustainability.

When an appropriate player necomes available at the appropriate price / wages, DM will buy him. I don't get why people are so quick to condemn a management team that's brought in the likes of Howard, Lescott, Cahill, Arteta and AJ at bargain basement prices over the last few years. Yes, there have been Kroldrup and VDM as well, but compared to others clubs the ratio of good to bad at Goodison the past 3/4 years has been excellent.

Besides, only 6 days till we sign Riquelme :)

What exactly is the top end of the prem we cannot compete with, Reading, Fulham, Sunderland, Aston Villa, West Ham, it is not clear to me.

If we cannot invest in new players then this is possibly a recipe for the lower end of the prem and no euro football at the end of the next season. This season is massive after our achievement to get us into Europe and get good place money. There are times when you have to expend say 10 mill to reap 20 mill later!!!

I was pointing out in some of my recent posts that IMO we had no money and it would appear to be true. If we cannot afford for example 6 mill to say bring Nugent in then we are skint because really there are no 1 mill class players out there to compete in the prem or europe.

Beg to differ, RJ - Nugent at 6MM is way too speculative for a club that already has 4.1 strikers in the first team squad (BT being the .1). I have not yet seen any player bought by the teams you mention that I would want at everton at anywhere near the price (and wages) involved. I also would not want Everton to be a revolving door like we used to be in the Smith era, and like Portsmouth are. I'd rather see us add one or two carefully thought out quality squad reinforcements, and I'm sure we will still see that before the first UEFA game.

Tight - Everyone is willing to pay 10 for no neck bellend.

see above the above.

his comments are aimed at this silly season, did you know during this transfer window the PL has spent 3 times as much compared with just 2 years ago.

I'm with you on this one Rob. All he is saying is that we don't have the sort of money to spend on players like Teves (£25M) or Bent (£16M). I think there will be a couple more new faces before the season begins. I remember people bemoaning the fact that we hadn't brought in any big players when we signed Cahill, Arteta, Neville and Lescott, now they are the backbone of the club. I still trust Moyes to get it right, after all, who else can we trust.....
