Moyes HAS to do something big

Player Valuation: £100m
When we signed Lescott Moyes split the cash for 3 players....

The disaster which was Bilyaletdinov (who Hiddink recommended to him and I very much doubt Moyes had even seen play)......Heitinga who is now rated as our best centre back.....and Distin who has 1-2 years left in him.

That to me has been a disgraceful waste of money. Moyes could have gone out and bought much better with hindsight, thanks to the Bilyaletdinov sale the money has been wisely reinvested into Jelavic and Gibson.

At that time it was well known that Lescott was off and we wanted him to stay + were haggling the fee -- this Rodwell deal has come out of nowhere. Coupled with the sudden departure of Cahill + the loan players all being let go (bar Pienaar) and a cull from our reserves it doesnt make for very good confidence within either the squad or the fanbase.

The fact is that we are now short in the following areas;

Left back cover
Right back 1st eleven player
Right midfield 1st eleven player
Centre forward cover
Playmaker

A few points;

A -- Are Garbutt and/or Bidwell ready to be cover this season ? Theyre still only 19 with zero prem experience.

B -- We have 3 right backs -- Neville, Coleman, Hibbert. I imagine Moyes wont be buying a 1st choice for now.

C -- Literally we have had NO-ONE other than Arteta / Pienaar / Drenthe who have been any good playing there for years. This MUST be a priority.

D -- Jelavic is awesome. Velios scores off the bench. McAleny is promising.......Anichebe--words fail everyone why he is still at the club.

E -- We lack someone who dictates play, an Arteta/Modric type if you will.....Fellaini can keep the ball well but we do lack a playmaker.....perhaps this will be Osman this season with Barkley being brought into a starting role as the season continues ?

The question is, will Moyes now waste the Rodwell money on wages for another Hahnemann/McFadden type signing + buy some squad players.....

OR 30+ year old players with zero resale value who can do a job for a few seasons

OR will he go and sign some young top talent who he believes can be better for our team than Rodwell.

Personally I think Moyes needs to make a statement of intent now and make a big signing of Fellaini proportions to not only appease the fans but also the squad, whilst lowering the squads average age and being a rebuilding process which wont see us look at 6th place as being a success.

I would love to see someone whos proven quality.
Big exiting signing...
But that wouldn't help with the fact that our squad needs bolstering.

Anyways, Moyes give us something exiting please

Some jump on the whole 30+ thing as a major reason not to sign a player. The truth is there needed as much as the younger players in a succesfull side.

IMO if moyes sells a Rodwell who is 21 you want to be bringing in 2 players with that cash. 1 young akin to Rodwell and then a quality player for a posistion we need. The best man for the job with available funds wether that's a early 20's or approaching 30's so be it...

And IMO moyes spent the lescott money well. By that I mean 2 quality CB's ( I'm sure moyes intended using Johnny at RB) and a winger which we needed. It was unfortunate that it didn't work out with billy but the thought was right at the time

I didnt want to make this similar to the 'whose the replacement' thread -- as its not really a replacement (in my opinion) that we're after.

However, theres so much young talent which is affordable out there....2 players who could fit well on the right would be Victor Moses and Wilfried Zaha (who can also play up front)....these are simply 2 names who I've plucked from thin air who are based in England....another 2 are the much gossiped about Ince and Philips.....

I imagine ANY of those 4 could fill the right midfield slot -- would I be able to make a judgement on any of them NO as I've not seen enough of them.....however I'd imagine we would have enough in wages + fees to sign 2 of them.

Looking further afield, decent name players who 'may' be available but perhaps just outside of our price range would be Adem llajic and Christian Eriksen......perhaps they would be seeking a bigger move and big wages too....however Arda Turan went for 12mil Euro last summer so there are some possibilities for us.

However one thing I've learnt with Moyes is that he can do some amazingly good deals for players in our current side (Jelavic/Baines/Heitinga/Jagielka) all for around the 6mil mark + some fantasticly cheap deals Gibson.....and of course the sides fulcrum a big money buy in Fellaini.

But he also has a tendency to waste valuable funds on meaningless players.

Personally I'd spend the lot on a top young right midfielder/winger.....if there was cash left over I'd sign another wide midfielder so that both the left/right midfield slots were covered for the next few years with Pienaar +2.

I can't agree with any of that mate......Everton have NO MONEY unless we sell to buy. This means we are a selling club who need to have young players come through or be signed.....then improve them and sell them to buy 2 more of equal or similar quality. Then do the same.....this simply must be done in order to ensure there is quality in each position -- something we can see we are badly lacking now !

If you're talking about 30+ players then we have I think, enough experience with Howard,Baines,Heitinga,Jagielka,Neville,Hibbert,Osman,Pienaar -- they may not all be 30 but they ALL have a lot of experience and thats 8 players !!

In my opinion, as soon as Rodwell agreed the move Moyes should be looking at 2 lists.....one list of TOP CLASS young players who have enormous potential (more so than the player just sold) in his and our scouts eyes -- this previously would be the Fellainis, Hazards,M'Bia/Essien calibre players who moyes has been after in years gone by....he would then have Elstone contact each of their clubs to see how much they want.

The second list would comprise of 2nd level targets such as the Moses/Zaha/Philips/Ince/Fetfatzidis types where he can Sell 1 Rodwell and buy two youngsters to improve the squad and hope they realise their potential.

The Lescott spending was nothing short of a disgrace. Heitinga is no right back and has been shunted into right back and defensive midfield before cementing centre back now after a some great games and some poor games.....Bilyaletdinov was a disaster -- NEITHER of those 2 players I think moyes had a clue where to play when he signed them. Distin has now been a good signing but if we didnt have Duffy coming through we would need to replace him in a season with again, no funds.

Moyes simply must find 1 or 2 top young wide midfielders.....if he can manage to do that we would have something like this;

AM -- Osman/Barkley/Naismith
RM -- Coleman + a new signing
LM -- Pienaar/Gueye + a new signing
CM -- Fellaini/Gibson/Junior

For me, I think we NEED a very fast young right winger.....but we also lack a playmaker who can play on the flanks.

My signings would simply be 1 or 2 fast exciting young wingers as the Arteta role could be taken by Pienaar in case of injuries....

He will......

He'll sign another huge contract that'll see him be one of the best payed manager in world football.

He's part of our problem.

So negative sharpy.....hypothetically what part of the team would you send the money on if he received the full amount ?

To be honest. I can't see it being a disgrace what we did with the Lescott money. Sure Bily was a flop, but Heitinga and Distin have been absolute quality.

Moyes will do exactly what he's told.

"That's a good lad, Davie. Sell him, him and him...and here's a few quid to get a couple of loans in and here's another contract for you to sign".
