The thing is Man City and Chelsea outspend us by about 5 to 1 (taking wages, agent fees and transfer fees together). If you're looking at managers who've won trophies you need to look at men who have overcome that kind of financial disparity to do it.

Vitor hasn't. Lennon hasn't.

Managers who have won trophies in germany with a non bayern team, Ralf, Klopp, Magath etc have done it.
Managers to win trophies in spain with teams outside the big two like simeone or ramos have done it.
Managers like Mourinho to win the CL with a team outside the big leagues have done it.
Giroud did it when he won the french league with montpellier vs a PSG side who were about 30 times richer.
Managers like Mazzarri to win trophies in italy with a team outside milan and turin have done it.
Managers in south america to win a continental trohpy with a non brazilian side like Sampaoli have done it.
And managers to win trophies in England with a team outside the top 5 have done it, so Redknapp, McLiesh, Laudrup, Martinez.

That was my shortlist and then you whittle off the ones who play crap football, haven't reproduced that success, wouldn't come here, are bellends, etc.

And I was basically left with Martinez or Giroud.

If you're going for a trophy winner, picking up a young manager who has yet to get a shot at the big time isn't a bad tactic but of the trophy winners for me it's Martinez or Giroud.
I hope you mean Rene Giard and not Oliver Giroud

...I presume this chat relates to a person still to be interviewed but it doesn't mean they are going to be appointed. Bill might have let his instinct run wild and already have his man.

Think I may be in a majority of one on here but actually have some sympathy with Kenwright over this appointment! Think he is stuck between a rock and a hard place whichever way it goes! Looking at the two "popular" names, if he appoint Pereira the Martinez fans will not be happy, likewise if he goes down the Martinez route the Pereira supporters wont be happy.

If then either goes on to be a success (please God!), it will be inspite of Kenwright! But if it goes wrong for whoever is appointed a firestorm from hell will be unleashed by the mob on Kenwright!

Personally I am just happy that the two main names being mentioned are Pereira and Martinez and not some of those being touted around a couple of weeks ago like Jones, Hughes, McCarthy amongst others and god forbid even Megson! I think even an "internal" appointment would be a nightmare at this moment in time, and if it all goes wrong is still a possibility.

Whoever gets the honour of managing Everton Football Club we should all get fully behind and look forwards, unlike that shower across the park who must have permanent neck ache from looking backwards all the time

That will only happen if the new manager is a success without backing, and if he is a failure it will also be without financial backing, he deserves no credit and he has no credit to help any manager.

Are you not sort of proving his point?
Bill can't make a decision where he is credited with making a good choice. It's a bit of a thankless task.

Maybe Kenwright will just save the pounds and roll his sleeves up and do it himself. If he let his gut do the talking and gets some good players in we could get top4
