I wouldn't get too excited about marking Messi out of the game.

Phil Neville managed that against both Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale when playing right back.

Marking jobs can be deceiving.

Hmmm, is it too early to think of a Besic chant?

Wasn't that Coleman who marked Bale out of the game? In fact, I think Hibbert or Neville went off injured in that game and he made his first 'I'm boss, lids' debut?

No sir! Coleman's debut was a different game, came on when we were two down and turned the game.

Neville marked Ronaldo and hurt him well in the Fellaini header game, Fellaini's first goal maybe? And then done a job on Bale twice.

Could have ruined their reputation too the Domestos haired Moyes mimicking wool.

You're right of course. But what had me impressed was that he wasn't marking Messi non stop. He was given a license to participate in attack, because Messi tends to go inactive, it would have been a waste to have him man marked 100% of time.

Besic's performance against Argentina was outstanding not just for his marking but his overall contribution to ball possession and attack build up.

edit: I watched the ESPN broadcast, which was commentated by Roberto Martinez and he sounded impressed throughout the game as well.

I remember being engaged in taktikal tawk with @Brownie and I was most impressed with Bosnia in the World Cup.

When I typed that to him I was picturing that little dynamo Besic in my head doing all his keeping it neat and boss with passing thing. Then Everton read my thoughts and decided to try and sign him apparently. Well in Everton.

I had a feeling Everton was going to make a move, because Roberto kept repeating how great Besic (and Pjanic) were, on the ESPN broadcast.
