No, no, no, no, no.

I don't mean that about every comment to have been posted here, and I would like to see him signed up.

But for me, there is no 'right amount of snide'. We've spent the last few years putting down the likes of Suarez because he is a snide. He's a cheat and he goes on to give it to the ref. As Evertonians we have hated a few players for such poor behaviour. Drogba, Dzeko, Gerrard (Hibbert red card 07/08) for such awful and snide behaviour all spring to mind.

I think it would be hypocritical of us to want such a player for ourselves - I for one think that Arteta was one such git (although a brilliantly talented footballer) and this has come out especially since he joined Arsenal. It would not have pleased me so much to see him scoring goals for us if I had realised how snide he was - I wish I had noticed.

Maybe I am an idealist. I love Everton and I want to see us doing things the correct way.

I would like to see Everton sign Besic because I think he's talented and Roberto can take the negative side out of him and turn him into a player who goes about things the right way and shows his exemplary potential.
Different type of snide.

Theres :

snide - Cahill

Then theres :

snide - Sewerz

Different kind of snide.

@Pienaar's gloves this is exactly what I mean.

Cahill didn't even spring to mind, but he was capable of being a bell too. I don't think he was ever as much of a snide as Gerrard but he was still capable of being a snide. Yeah sure when I was fourteen I loved his pinning down of Alonso, but it is far classier to be well behaved.

Did being well behaved ever win trophies? I honestly don't know but I suspect it didn't very often.

I would rather win it with as much good behaviour as we can cram in. And it saves on any hypocrisy later.

Look if he goes around biting people and racially abusing people - bad snide
Leaving your foot in and just blates giving people a slap - good snide

I'd rather win nasty than lose honourably, thanks.

dont get so hung up on the term snide, he's a very different type of player to those mentioned

And I will be the first to accept that I can be idealistic about these things.

But in all honesty, it upsets me to see anyone damage the good name of Everton Football Club damaged, much less see us dragged through the mud like a number of clubs have been for supporting badly behaved professionals.

I'd rather win nasty than lose honourably, thanks.

I don't think snide and nastiness are necessarily the same thing. On the other hand it still makes me happier to see us go about things in the right way.

Perhaps we just disagree, or as @Walken suggests, my understanding of the word itself is not applicable in the same way.

not so much your understanding of the word itself, just how its being bandied about here, no need to apply it so literally to Besic himself, he's more McCarthy than suarez

I hope so - and I've no reason to disbelieve you because while I know I must have watched him play at this tournament I honestly couldn't tell you much about him or pick him out of a line up.

My problem is with this belief that any sort of snide is good. It's certainly natural yes, and common in some people too. It still isn't a characteristic that I want to see Besic or anyone else bring to Everton.
