We don't half miss the bigger picture sometimes.

The lad misses the best part of 18 months due injury. Comes back to fitness and instead of playing a bit each week etc he gets randomly chucked in with an assortment of players which changes week to week for no discernible reason plays 90 minutes where the whole team is absolutely rubbish and then disappears for weeks.

And whilst this happens we get shouts of "oh he not up to the task, he's not good enough" etc etc.

Well on that basis Sigurdsson is not good enough, Baines is not good enough, Keane is not good enough. Schneiderlin makes Besic look like Zinedine Zidane in his pomp in comparison.

And don't start me on people judging Klaassen and Sandro already too....

The players, and this includes Besic, are being put in a position they can not succeed in. They get the ball, look up and see nobody moving, running, showing for the ball (apart from Wayne Rooney playing Sweeper or whatever he is doing...) which in turn makes them do something stupid because they run out of options.

We need to have a proper look at just why these players are "not up to it" because they have talent, Besic, Sandro and Klaassen all have proper ability but until the manager sorts his formation and set up out then they will all be on a hiding to nothing.

In fairness, given his injury record and the majority of the team performances he has been involved in it is understandable that a lot of fans think he is utter crap.

Like you, I think he is very talented and I'd like to see him get a solid season in a strong team under a good manager. Hopefully at Everton.

I actually felt sorry for him last night. Its like having a player who you like a lot on a personal level but who, it increasingly looks like, is not going to make it.

Atalanta were stronger in midfield and ran the game for long periods. Besic's passing was limited and often wayward and he just got knocked off the ball too often just like that Arsenal game 18 months ago. The terrible diagonal ball that led to the third goal was a killer.

After the surrender to Spurs,I guess it was worth giving the lad a chance but he blew it.

Honestly, after such a long period of lay offs anyone would need more than a few run outs to get back to up to speed.

The big concern is his actual position and whether he can integrate into the squad in a meaningful way, let alone if his injuries are behind him.

I don't think he's playing like his usual self. Like Schnides, he too is playing in a very cautious and restricted way. Before his injuries, Besic tried to play box to box, run with the ball in midfield, he used to pick forward passes and showed good ball composure but needed improvement in decision making. Yesterday I think he crossed the half way line a couple of times max his body language is not the fiery type we know.

Finally a guy that notices the important things. Even during preseason last year Besic did not do many forward passes. Now we see similar behaviour from him. It just has to be Koeman giving him restrictions. Which I frankly dislike since we really lack an attacking pressence especially in the central midfield.

I think I have seen him do more attacking at central defence this preseason than these 2 last games he has played as central midfielder put together.

He was poor, but still had a better showing than Schneiderlin.

If he stays fit between now and January, I'd think about sending him somewhere on loan and then seeing how he looks in the summer. There's a player there, but he needs regular minutes.

he's actually comfortable in possession of the ball ! Schneiderlin and Sigurdsson arent. Nobody doing anything in front of him yesterday though
