at the time I went it was relatively so, I did it on a modest budget. Would recommend trying L'Antica Pizzeria da Michele. but get there early as the queues form and you cant book.

I won't lie mate that is one of the places I had penciled in if i go.

Is the city of Naples cheap say for food and drink?

Yeah, pretty cheap I’d say especially compared to the likes or rome.

It’s brilliant. We loved it when we went.

As everyone else has said, get yourself over to one of the islands. Plenty of ferry’s to catch at the harbour.

We went to capri and it was beautiful. Massive tourist trap in parts though.

Salerno, while being a handy spot for grabbing the ferry to several stops along the amalfi coast, is a total kip.

I used to go to Italy every two weeks, Florence and Rome are fabulous, but anywhere proper south (Naples) and my chauffeur carried a gun…true….

The South unfortunately had a reputation at the time, real or not, of kidnapping and demands for payment. My company would not allow any Director to be placed in harms way….weird I know but that’s what happened…….

Pompeii is cool and the Amalfi coastline is amazing but I just couldn't warm to the Italian people at all.

A boat trip to Capri and around The Bay of Naples stopping off at Positano and Amalfi, I can probably never afford to go abroad again but if I had one last chance it would be to do this.

Drive along the Amalfi coast- just stunning.
Also worth a visit to Herculaneum... a smaller version of Pompeii and get yourself up Vesuvius.

If you can get yourself up into tge mountains in Calabria and look west in a clear evening, you can see Strimboli out at sea which is amongst the most active volcanoes on Earth.

Southern Italy is like Northern England... the people ate less stuffy and things are way cheaper than the "other end."
