On behalf of half the forum, can just say soz @davek . It appears you were right
Really? How so?
Wasn't Taveneir their captain and already providing lots of assists and goals over the past couple of seasons ? he had 19 goals and 16 assists last season....

You'd have to be mental to drop a player in that kind of form
Yep. You're totally right, and this has been mentioned quite a few times here. It's also been mentioned that a lot of Rangers fans had been screaming for Patterson to start over Tav on quite a few occasions when Tavernier's form dipped (which it does regularly). The situation was similar to here at Everton, the guy in NP's position was the club captain. I would go so far as to suggest that it has been the fact that NP was pressing for a first team start, week in, week out, has pushed Tavernier to return those stats over the last few seasons. Rangers went undefeated in the league last year, it would take a brave (or daft) manager to drop the captain when you haven't lost a league game.

Because he said stuff like:
People trying to imply he's in the Tierney / Roberston class are kidding themselves.

Hes a sub and Everton just paid decent cash for him. That is the strength of the matter.

I just wish that cash had been spent on an experienced proper RB who can defend.

So far he's not made a divot on the hallowed Goodison turf. Folk ridiculing Dave and hailing the new Cafu may have been a tad premature.
Is he a sub?
Did we pay decent cash for him?
Would an experienced RB who can defend be uesful right now?

??? I bet you know little or nothing about him.

Maybe not. I think that loss has made decisions easier for Frank.
Here's hoping. Especially Coleman, Gomes and Holgate need taking out of the firing line in Saturday.

Patterson, Mykolenko (covid-permitting), van de Beek (nobody else available), DCL and Branthwaite in for me.

I think Iwobi will start because Gray is injured, Townsend was knackered last night, and we have nobody else, or maybe El Ghazi, or both for fresh legs.

442:
Pickford
Patterson Keane Branthwaite Mykolenko
El Ghazi van de Beek Allan Iwobi
DCL Richarlison

343/352/3412
(frightening thought with that defence):
Pickford
Holgate Keane Branthwaite
El Ghazi van de Beek Allan Iwobi
Alli DCL Richarlison

I don't think anyone ridiculed him, people just criticised him for making judgement before he has even kicked a ball. He's only been here for a few weeks. You've even said he can't defend before he's had a first team start.
If he gets a run and it doesn't work, fair enough, but to dismiss the guy already seems unfair. As was pointed out in his U-23 game last week, he was the best player on the pitch. There's not much else he can do. It's not his fault Lampard soiled himself at the thought of dropping the captain for his first EPL game. You must have seen how highly Rangers fans regarded him? Regardless of what you think of the Scottish game, the fans know a player when we see one, just as much as you guys do.

Take Keane out of that immediately. He was absolutely dreadful last night. Playing blind passes into trouble first 5 minute. Turns slower than milk. Bottling 50/50 challenges, he was good in the air that’s about it.

Saying that we can’t. He has to play we have no fit players. My god.
