2022/23 Nathan Patterson

Iwobi would have a covering CB coming across to the flank, whereas when he loses it further up the pitch the opposition player has space to drive at the heart of our defence.

You better believe we have to get some attacking momentum down our right side, because we dont get it down the left. When Coleman came back in for 45 minutes on Monday night it underlined what we were missing: a pairing like Iwobi and him determined to press on and get the opposition on their heels. When Coleman went off we were back to the usual supply lines of McNeil having a go and Doucoure hoping for scraps in the final third.

We need Iwobi and Gray down that side. If it doesn't work then we've at least gone out with the intention of winning.
Your shout of Iwobi at RB instead of Patterson is nothing more than transparent and ridiculous bias
You're trying to find tactical justifications for it, but are failing miserably lol

I'll be the first one to congratulate him if he has a great game...as I did when he had a very good derby.

I know you're Scotch and cant look at it objectivley but I'm looking at his performances and I see a lad who looks the part but cant actually do the basics of his position. Now that might all change eventually as he gets older, but I look at the likes of Hickey - a year younger and a lad who did well in Italy at Bologna - and see his development in the PL and Patterson is nowhere near that lad's quality.

That's part of the frustration around us signing Patterson for £12M. Some of us - @Neiler - had spotted Hickey at Hearts years earlier and were desperate for Everton to sign him for a couple of million back then. It was THAT obvious he was talented.
Yeah, and had we done so, we still would have needed a right back as Hickey is a left back. It’s a totally different conversation that you need to take up in the Mykolenko thread. You know, the thread for the player who plays in the position Hickey plays in.

It's easy to spot the Celtic fans hear who also like Everton, strange people.

You'd think the guy went on loyalist marches and wore a sash, he barely even played for Rangers, not sure what the point in Everton buying someone with potential is if they're never going to develop the raw tools he has and work on the weaknesses.

The modern full back is exactly like him it's all attacking tools and the positioning and defensive stuff needs work, some of our fans stuck in the dark ages obsessed with a defensive full back.

Think he has played both sides tbf
All nonsense anyway, there is nothing Hickey has done that makes him better than Patterson. It's just agenda driven waffle and davek's running out of arguments to make lol

Correct

He's in the middle of learning his trade from one of the most important Republic of Ireland players of the past 20 years

I remember reading a story about Roy Keane refusing to speak to Andy Goram when he joined Man U due to the fact that he was a staunch ex-Rangers player

This is quite a different situation altogether

according to Goram
Maybe he just thought he was crap and/or didn't like him?!

Plays off both sides, FYI.

Maybe does but he will undoubtedly be much more efficient on the left than he is on the right.
Hickey's adaptability has Man City looking to land him for next season.

It'll cost them £30M like.

Pity the clever people at Everton didn't listen to their own fans when he was going for £3M.

@Neiler @Mikey_Fitzgerald @polish

We could have had Antonee Robinson (25 years old) at LB and Aaaron Hickey at RB (20 years old) for the sum total of £3M and be set up for the next decade...and they'd have powered us to midtable at the least over the last few seasons.
