2024/25 Nathan Patterson

Did fine out of position, seems a weird time to attack him but pretending you’re right on the Internet is very very important
had the “next big thing” in his pocket for 45 minutes (so much so Nwaneri was hooked at half time) and fouled Saka once in the second half, while playing out of position. It’s as clear as day that some posters are blinded by their prejudice/stupidity.

….if posters have a different opinion to you it doesn’t mean they’re stupid or prejudiced, it doesn’t even mean they’re necessarily wrong. Thing is, Dyche and now Moyes rarely pick him, I don’t think it’s because they’re prejudiced or stupid.

I’m sure those of us who see how much he’s lacking want him to be good, I know I do but I judge on what I see.

The pretence of “Oh I’d love it if he did well and want him to be good” whilst being as quick as you can to jump on the smallest thing, is honestly more nauseating than DaveK’s hate-trolling.

…ok, fella, but I’d genuinely be chuffed when any of our players turn out to be decent, Patterson and Chermiti in particular. Some people mean what they say.

Stop kidding yourself

Better than Ashley Young, which I’m happy about.

….sadly, that’s a moot point and Young is not the benchmark to be judging him by.

The reality is Coleman, Young, Godfrey, O’Brien and even Garner have been selected ahead of Patterson yet posters criticise those who have doubts about him. If he was the real deal, he’d be in this Everton team, that’s the reality.

It's not about whether he's the "real deal", it's about the undue criticism he gets for merely breathing. He played well today, but because he made one mistake against one of the best players in the world, any praise is caveated. Do I think he's a starting player for Everton? Most likely not. Did he choose his transfer fee? Did he choose to get assaulted by his manager?

Well Patterson was selected ahead of Young today.

People were calling Young “player of the season” for putting in a handful of performances like Patterson put in today. Nothing special, just being in the full back position and not costing us goals. Different players are held to different standards in this fanbase.

….he was at LB, but he did get selected ahead of Young which is a positive.

It’s not the ‘different standards’ of fans that matter, it’s the consistent standard and views of Managers that matter.

Dyche has shown his judgement was massively flawed based on his refusal to use O’Brien and sparing use of Beto. Not sure he is the best benchmark to use.

…fair point but I have to admit to never once thinking of O’Brien as a RB. I’m still of a view that Patterson should easily have forced his way into this team during the time he’s been here. He’d never have a better opportunity.

Managers don’t pick him simply because they think they have better options.

It’s a bit of a Groundhog Day discussion, a bit pointless trying to convince each other otherwise. I genuinely hope you’re right.
