Nations League can get rar in the bin.

I got the impression that UEFA saw Brazil and Argentina coming over and making money from playing friendlies in Europe that they weren't getting a cut of. The competition takes up all the space available for friendlies, keeps them in charge and makes them money.

I like the idea of the Nations League, especially for the lower ranked nations to be playing more games at their own level, a relative level of success rather than just being tonked every few months and nobody gaining anything from it.
I think that is its only benefit. Let Gibraltar and San Marino slug it out in a competitive match. The higher up the leagues you go the less value it has.

There's way way too many internationals, just read Mason Mount already has 31 caps, it is absolutely mental the frequency of fixtures these days. He only broke through a couple of seasons ago. Used to be as time when it was really difficult to rack the caps up.

I'd be interested to see Harry Kane's goal record if friendlies are discounted compared to say Lineker if his friendly goals are ignored also.

Totally agree. When will these people realise that less is more?

Not sure about friendlies but there are more qualifiers now. In Lineker's day qualifying groups only had 4 teams. Nowadays its 6 I think. Also tournaments are bigger than they were then.

Lineker played against tons of minnows too TBF
