****'s me right off.

That couple who are clearly loaded because they are living in a country house with silver spoons inserted in every orifice. And they say this:

"Well it's feast or famine - and it's pretty lean at the moment."

Is it? I'm ******* sure it is - how about those who have and are losing their houses, there is this woman my missus knows who worked at a shop for 13 years and has now been turfed out by some Sri Lankan family. Or how about that old dear on This Morning who is homeless all of a sudden.

I bank with Natwest for my business, but this ad has shocked me. Let's all feel sorry for the rich.

As opposed to people who borrowed too much, lived fecklessly and are still getting help by the government by means of 0% interest rates?

As usual the government have their priorities arse about face. They're helping the banks that messed up, they're helping the businesses that have messed up, they're helping the individuals that have messed up. The people that acted sensibly, nah, screw them.

I've got 40k for a deposit on a house (saved through hard work - no silver spoon here) and still can't get a mortgage for a house in London because the banks are scared ****less to lend. Forgive me for not having any sympathy towards the idiots that have caused this mess.

keep you cash for the time being bruce.

it's not just the big banks as you say. individuals have been making poor financial decisions and living off credit for years now. people need to take control of their own debt. if you have a good job but are still living off credit cards you need to change your lifestyle.

i saved up 25 grand to open my own business and i also paid off huge uni debts during that time. how did i do it? i lived off 35 pounds a week (after rent and bills) for around two years. now my business has increased my monthly wage more than 6 fold.

i had to apply for hardship grants at uni, as my parents were in no position to help me financially. what i'm saying is that with a bit of forward planning anyone can pick themselves up.

Exactly. There have been many studies that showed how awful most Brits are at personal finance. They screwed up big time, but it isn't my fault. Saving's a waste of time right now as the interest rates are non-existent. Never mind the fact that we're in this mess purely because individuals/banks borrowed too much/saved too little. Lets encourage even more borrowing and less saving. Bloody stupid government!

What is the price these for a house in London, Bruce? It's seems bizarre that with £40k you've still not got enough for a deposit. Something very, very wrong with house prices in the capital.

You're looking at £150k minimum for anywhere reasonable. The companies I've asked so far have been prepared to lend me around £105/110k. All tightening their belts I think.

Aye.

Sad truth is, I am virtually been forced out the country.

Why stay here paying £20k student loan and renting a apartment when I could move to Texas/Canada, dont pay any of that student debt (legally) and buy a far superior house for a fraction of the price?

This country, its backwards. Cant wait to move.

Can I have a job?

I could teach Scouse.

Will only work standard teaching hours though, 9-3. None of this 8am-12pm stuff.

We were forced out of the UK. We'd farted around a bit and had no savings. There was no way we could afford the type of house we wanted. Moreover, despite my wife having a PhD she couldn't find work in Scotland. So we bought a house in Denmark. It cost us £85k, has a barn, an outhouse, huge cellar and 4.5 acres of land. Still, it needs a lot of work done on it.

One thing, although the UK is ****hole, there is something special about the place and the people. There is a vibe there that just doesn't exist elsewhere, at least not anywhere in Europe.

Swerve that. Would be scary when its dark.

"Barn, Outhouse, huge cellar" and open space, it has all the makings of a horror film.

My near-neighbour (see thread on Gangs in DK) would probably make a fine Freddy Kruger.

Mate, if I could have it, I'd have a house that was miles from civilization. To me, although it's very rural where I am, and we have no immediate neighbour, it's still too crowded.

Strange but I was watching Antiques Roadshow the other day and this woman covered in jewelry turned up with a 200+ year old bit of furniture with secret draws in it. After being told to insure it for at least 3 grand she said she was going to take it home and put all her unpaid bills back in it. Unpaid bills? Cheeky cow wouldnt know the meaning of being in debt. She should try living where I live.
