Yes, players are only as good as the ones around them. There must be something about him and perhaps he looks poor because our squad is not balanced in any way.

We have fans asking why we don't have a scouting network like Brentford/Brighton.

Both signed him.

We have other fans wanting us to sign promising talent from the lower leagues - he was the championship player of the year/scoring for fun.

We have other fans wanting us to buy low risk players with resale potential to get us out of FFP nightmare - he was 25 with a decent pedigree.

I wish I could just write him off as crap but the problem is deeper than Maupay.

It's a challenge with Simms too - from what I've seen of him he's not a number 9 either so it's unfair to lash him in even if he is just a few years younger than Maupay.

It's why Calvert-Lewin is so vital and why replacing him next season is the massive priority.

This is the reality of it all.

My gripe is we cant play the same way with DCL as we do with Maupay, so when DCL comes off surely Simms is the answer to bring on as you dont have to change anything.

If we had a strong controlling midfield then playing Maupay just off DCL would not be too bad, unfortunately we need 3 in midfield regardless of who were playing.
