His 3 seasons with Brighton, he scored 10, 8 and 8. Not great numbers of course, but we would probably have been ok with him if he got the same numbers last season.

He obviously looked like he couldn't hit a barn door last season, let alone double figures, so for those who watched him at Brighton - what was the difference? If you can score 10 goals in a premier league season you are obviously not rubbish or a donkey, but why was he so ineffective for us compared to moderately effective for Brighton?

He wasn't being asked to be a target man at Brighton and carry the forward line on his own.
Saying that he is still crap

Brighton create a lot more higher quality on the deck chances than we do.

Brighton probably played to his strengths. We were trying to us him as we'd use DCL, which he is not physically capable of.

I have to say to score you have to be in a position were you can score from. He doesn't seem to go in the box.

Who knows with a preseason, he might improve? As you said if was getting 8 goals for us it would have been a decent signing for the money. Not saying he should play up front alone or the answer to covering from DCL. But maybe as a second striker alongside DCL or whoever we sign. Doubt it, will happen.

Sorry, and no offence, but this what is ruining our club, believing 8 goals would be a good return. It isn’t, it’s crap, we’ve had centre halves score more goals in a season…..

Surely it’s obvious what the difference is

Maupay has been hugely disappointing and if he had scored eight goals last season they could have been very valuable.

However, in his defence (sort of) we were the least creative tam in the premiership last season. There was nobody in the team playing clever creative football.
I think we were trying to sign Kudus to improve us in that department and we still desperately need a similar type of player.
We are very predictable and easy to play against which does make it very difficult for any striker to score. We have players like Iwobi who runs around a lot but in my opinion he doesn't create much.

And he still missed absolute howlers quite often.

Now he's here and we need someone with even a modicum of clinical finishing and other than a magical (for his standards) volley against WHam he's proving he can't hit a ball consistently and just isn't fast enough when called upon. Several times he could/should've had first time shots instead took like 5 touches for no reason and ended the attack, or just straight up misplacing simple passes. He does rile up the defenders though, but it's not something we need.

Basically we needed a consistent striker, even if he was average, and instead we got a 'pissboiler' who is barely average on a good day. Good one Kev, doing bits.
