Near Death Experiences

I was wading out into the sea in Eastbourne, near to the timber that separates the beaches (i forget what they are called).

I was about 7 or 8, up to my waist in the water when all of a sudden the seabed disappeared and i went completely under. All happened quick but I do remember getting a lungful of water and thinking 'oops'.

Probably more scary for my mum and dad as they just saw me vanish. My dad had to stick his hands in and feel for me, grabbed a handful of hair and yank me up.

Apparently one of the wooden posts had been removed and there was a 10 foot hole underwater, just big enough for me to fall into.

Why all the fuss about Norris Green ? I dont get it . Ive worked there loads and the people seem sound . Never had a problem . The media have just blown up the situation into something it isnt . All it is is a hardcore of around 15 or so young lads who have access to one or two guns . Same with Croxteth . The police simply need to smash them . No messing around . All we are talking about are youg ferel teenagers who need some rough justice . Its not like Manchester were things are on a totally different level .

I live in Croxteth and have family in Norris Green. Seeing what is going on around here every day, there's a bit more about it than you say. My cousin is a police sergeant at Lower Lane Station, covering the area, and his view was exactly the same as yours three years ago. His opinion changed with the Rhys Jones murder. Before that, the funeral of Liam (smigger) Smith 'the Nogzy soldier' had to be seen to be believed.

There are more than one or two guns available - there are several gun 'libraries' where you can borrow a weapon from a wide range of choices!

The age range of gang members is around 12 to mid/late twenties, so not necessarily a teenager problem. Drugs are an endemic problem, and there are strong links to other parts of the city, the number of shootings and resultant deaths has been consistent and even increasing over the last couple of years - Norris Green and Croxteth gang members have been linked to most of them.

I appreciate that parts of Manchester are maybe worse, but don't write off this area as media hype, it's not far behind.

If anyone fancies going to the off licence in Nogzy Strand at five to ten at night for four bottles of Chang - that would be a near death experience.

Anyway, time to go on my neighbourhood watch patrol. (y)

I have had a few close calls in a car.. im an excellent driver, i just push it to the limits a bit too much !

anyway i got a new car a few years ago, stupid quick ! and was round a mates before town! decided to go the shop, and as i had only had a few (enough to boost my confidence haha and make me stupid) i wanted to show my car off so drove it with the lads to the shop.

must have been doing around 80, and the corner went 45 degree left then right..

So you were going at least 20mph over the speed limit round a corner? No offence but you sound like a bloody awful driver mate.

way back in my youth, I did a bit of rock-climbing. And one day me and a few mates were in the Black Mountains in Wales near crickhowel. we had just done a fairly simple pitch of about 70 feet, and we were sat around on a ledge ....there was a gap of about 2 feet then a rock stack level in height with the ledge we were sat on...So my mate who was half mountain-goat runs and jumps the gap and lands on the rock stack...and then issued a challenge ....so soft arse here takes a run-up and lands both feet on the rock stack but totally off balance...and as I fell backward I did a full 360 rotation, and somehow smashed (coxix bone first right into a 4ock outcrop and then rolled / bounced down the cliff face...the pain in my arse +lower back was excruciating, and thought Id broken it...but managed to hobble off the mountain....next day I was bruised from my ankles to the back of my neck all purple + black...I fell a good 35 feet and to this day I often wake up in a cold sweat just thinking about it!!

I've duduced something from this thread

All Evertonians are either reckless/stupid/good at avoiding death.

I would add something contributary to the thread, but I have not one near death story.

Liverpool criminal gangs have always blazed a trail in the world of narcotics forging links directly with South American cartels so it stands to reason that drugs play a vital role for any gang down the food chain in the city even ones a rag tag as Croxteth & Norris Green . I am not talking about Big Drugs barrons such as Curtis Warren or John Hasse more a collection of ferel youths devoid of respect . That for the most part are all these lads are . They are taken advantage of and manipulated by people who are never hands on . The shooting of Rhys Johns was tragic and heart breaking but you only had to look at the attitude of the accused in court to see what your dealing with . These lads need smashing which if you ask me wouldnt all that tough a thing to do. The only people holding the police back are the army of liberal do-gooders that infest the criminal justice service .

Trust me mate . Liverpool isnt anyhere near Manchester when it comes to criminal gangs with weapons . I have worked in both cities for years and years . Manchester is far ahead of Liverpool in the criminal stakes in everything from firearms & armed robbery to house breaks & car theft .

Liverpools gang problem can still be contained . Liverpools drug cartels are a different story .

Agree with most of that mate, and the feral youth of society exist in more places than Liverpool, it's a national problem. As you say there is a lot of manipulation going on by the bigger players and the teens are all wannabe gangsters. Living amongst it though, it is a massive problem - how would you feel about looking out of your bedroom window at 2am and seeing someone standing in the middle of your back garden on his mobile, making 'arrangements', with an automatic rifle under his arm?
