I wouldn't say this is true. Any manager coming in will have a meeting with the scouts and no doubt go through the current targets for the club. Sure he may decide he doesn't want certain targets, and may even have some of his own to discuss, but you don't discount a clubs current targets without looking at them.

You have to remember Martinez is coming in to a working machine... Everything is ticking over nicely, he's not coming into a club that has been getting everything wrong the last few years. Anyone with brains would work with it not against it!

Both Chelsea and city are signing players whilst not having a manager currently.

Chelsea's board buys players themselves, and City have a DoF I believe?

As for Negredo, at that sort of money it's a big NO from me. He's hardly young, if there looking for close to his release clause of €20M then we should leave well alone.

Rooney wouldn't be much more! (Forgetting the wages for a mo)
Lakaku could maybe be bought with that and is what 7 years younger.

I would think there's plenty of young talent out there if we had around 15M to spend.

Well yeah fair point. Tbh my post was more of the opinion that current targets would surely not just be dismissed by a new boss unless he was a little stupid. We'v had an excellent record with player recruitment over the years!

I think he will end up at the RS once they sell Suarez.

I expect a number of smaller clubs to make big bids for big players this Summer, as they will not just spend this forthcoming season's TV cash but also next season's and the year afters.

We need to make sure we keep up with the likes of West Ham or we will soon be finishing below them.

new tv money is £20 mil+

It's going to be far more than that mate.

It was looking like an extra 30 million before the foreign TV deals were taken into account, and the new USA deal has increased more than 10-fold from 23million dollars to 250 million dollars, and there will have been similar increases in Australia, Europe and the East.

And no, I don't expect it to be spent on a new arsenal of lawn mowers.

I think much to much is made about this ageing squad thing. It's magnified by our finances being what they are and a masive overreaction to a player being 30 when the other clubs at the very top have players of simlar age in there squads.

Our only immediate problem is distin. Followed by osman and pienaar, finally jags but as a CB prob has 4 yrs left in him. And we have youngsters to potentially replace all of those. 2/3 quality signings a bit younger and were fine.

No overhaul needed. Definately quality over quantity!

Yeah very true, I agree with the other things you said about it - I'm sure we trust Moyes' targets more than Martinez's targets!

Yep, West Ham's non existent below value bid has clearly blew Everton out of the water.

Haha, you're not falling for West Ham's denial are you ? Of course when a bid fails a club are likely to deny it ever happened. The Sevilla president is directly quoted so that is enough for me to believe that it was genuine.

Anyway, after we failed to get him on the cheap last January that was probably the end of it for us even then.

We didn't try to sign him in January, it wasn't even a fake bid it was just a load of hot air.

I could well believe that West Ham have made such a bid. But I imagine that they will be using the new TV money, the same TV money that we will be receiving.

A 14 million pound bid would not blow Everton out of the water, in fact it's a smaller sum than we paid for our record signing in 2008.

Can't see us getting into a bidding war over a player that will cost a minimum €20m. With Felli we were the only club in for him.
