Captains should not only be vocal but also be one of your better players so they naturally lead by example and set the standards.

At Everton we pick captains because they’re old and have been at the club ages. Our worst player is our captain, and we wonder why there’s no standards being demanded of anyone else on the pitch.

On his day Keane is one of the best CBs in Europe. The new manager needs to find a way to add consistency to his game - the armband would be a big help, IMO.
