If we rehire Martinez I’d honestly be finished with them. It’s one thing making new mistakes but rehiring a manager that already failed before is insane even by Everton’s standards. It would just prove that we have the most embarrassingly incompetent board in football if this comes to pass.
Well - let's be honest. You won't be finished with Everton. No one who ever says that actually means it. The extremity of that feeling indicates the deep level to which you're bought in. There's literally no escape!
But onto your main point...
I was one of the ones calling for Martinez's head long before he went. But weirdly I'd be intrigued to see how it turned out if he came back.
For one, I don't believe he'd take us down, so it's relatively risk free. We've seen him at his worst - and that was mid-table with a crap squad and no money to spend really.
For another, he'd have Brands helping him with recruitment. I think he was largely awful in the transfer market in his time here - bar Barry, Lukaku and McCarthy. I'd hope with Marcel's expert help he'd do better.
And finally, I think his time with Belgium gives me hope that he's growing and developing as a coach and maybe has been able to reflect and move on from some of his worst traits.
I dunno - I'd not hate it.
But I feel like I can talk myself into almost anyone at the moment.
