I work in PR and this club is catastrophic at it, they think the silence makes them clever. But It just leaves space for rumours from every self-proclaimed itk in their box room tweeting rumours, briefings and counter briefings to journalists from the club and agents. You need to communicate a clear vision with your fans. They haven't spelt out what they are even looking for in a new manager, they haven't updated us on the process. Brands has barely spoken through the club to set out his vision. In three years.

If they think halting the appointment for a week to let the fume die down will work, then they are insane. It just means there will be a second spike, also if they really really want Benitez, you need him on camera when he is announced with some placating words and setting out his vision for the club, ho he intends to implement his brand of football, how excited he is and how much he loves the city. Alongside the announcement of his backroom team with Ferguson, Cahill, Carsely et al. Plus a vision from the board and director of football of how they will achieve success as we move towards BMD. But this is Everton they think silence is a communications strategy, it most definitely is not. They will rush out a quick glib statement when he is appointed and move on with scant regard for the heart and soul of the club, the fans.
