I'm trying not to be cynical and be sympathetic to the situation but when a journalist say this, my 'I don't trust anything' senses start to tingle.

"bringing out lots of reasonable people who support the appointment"

Yeah, "it wos chelsea".

See this? This isn’t acceptable.

By no means condoning what’s obviously stupid behaviour but as much as the person doing it has obvious responsibility its also on the owners ploughing on and making what everyone is telling them is a hugely divisive appointment at a time when the club almost certainly needs exactly the opposite.

I’ll keep going the game and I hope this gamble pays off but its an incredible risk with what seems little chance of reward .

Well they are.

He's a professional football manager that has won multiple trophies in multiple leagues, who has competition for the job from a murderer's row of nobodies and failures... and you're upset because he called Everton a small club once when we were acting like a small club and dared to be successful at a club you don't like.

It's ridiculous. I'd understand it if he'd "done a Barmby" but he hasn't.

I never said I was upset that he called Everton a small club, so stop putting words in my mouth. I don't like him as a man or as a football manager and he is clearly past his winning days.

Itls a potential death threat.

Stop trying to minimize the imprtance of this.

People can oppose Benitez 100% without resorting to that Kopite cultism. Itls about as far away from being an Evertonian as there can be.

The worst thing about this whole episode is that it can help blur the lines between us and them.

I am not minimizing anything. You are over glorifying it because you want it to be a death threat for some reason.

I have said countless times that the threat is bad enough and do not condone it, it does not need to made into anything more than that. Its oversensationalizing stuff, proper modern journalism things, throw a lie or a half truth in and people wont question it because of the outrage etc. All of a sudden it goes from "person puts up threatening banner near Benitez's house" to "Rafael receives death threats at his front door" Come on, it's sloppy.

I don't really care about the lines between us and them. People are people. There is nothing special about picking a club to support, it does not make you any different, you can follow us and still be a knob. "being an Evertonian" isn't really a thing.

He's totally the wrong choice for our next manager at a time when we need to hugely overhaul the senior players in the squad and build a new younger team. He has not got a track record of doing that anywhere and is another manager who favours experience and slow pedestrian football. The only winners here are our failing senior players who will be given yet another chance to flop.

The board will not bring success to the club until they let football people make football decisions.

"It's not a death threat though"

It's clearly still unacceptable language and there's definitely a suggestion of potential violence to both him and his family, which could include everything up to death, so calling it a "death threat" is more than valid

Certainly not worth arguing the toss over in an effort to minimalise how awful the banner is in general
