I had a quick look on the Trainline (other train ticket apps are available) and if you leave Liverpool at 7 you get in to Newcastle at 10.30 and to get back to Liverpool by 9 pm you have to leave at 5.30, so a 7 hour day. If he leaves West Kirby at 7 am he doesn't get to Newcastle until 12 noon and to get back to West Kirby by 9, you'd have to leave at 4.30, a four and a half hour day. Neither is outside of a normal working week. I suppose he could've just moved nearer Newcastle but he doesn't seem very bright.
