Thankfully, at his first presser, Benitez will be interrogated to within an inch of his life with 'How is James?' and 'When will Gbamin be fit' Bloke is gonna feel like he's been 12 rounds with Dunc.

I think you are right about the comment that Liverpool should be more upset about the appointment than us....at the moment they are choosing to believe he will not do well and are being smart about it,I don't want him. Even considering to appoint someone who called us a small club is a lack of self-respect imo. I would say the same even if he wasn't an ex-RS manager. As for the RS connection, the fact that their legends want to work for us should be shameful for them, not for us.
Is there really any reason to think he'll do well? He hasn't done anything exceptional in a job since he left the RS right? That's over a decade ago. The best argument is he got Newcastle back up and then got mid-table a couple of times but they're still getting mid-table now. Napoli were better before and after him. Inter and Madrid he couldn't see out the season.I think you are right about the comment that Liverpool should be more upset about the appointment than us....at the moment they are choosing to believe he will not do well and are being smart about it,
If we are lucky enough for Benitez to do really well then you will see their attitude change towards him , RAWK will make GOT seem as if it supportive of Benitez by comparison.
The small club comment was one I got over quickly.
It was in my opinion the comment of a frustrated manager, he felt they should have won and didn't. And wasn't happy about how we set up to play....it was our choice to play anyway we wanted within the rules.
Having a manager who gets so upset about not winning is not such a bad thing,
He will be able to bat those away easily by saying he hasn't had time or opportunity to look into those issues as he has just signed.Thankfully, at his first presser, Benitez will be interrogated to within an inch of his life with 'How is James?' and 'When will Gbamin be fit' Bloke is gonna feel like he's been 12 rounds with Dunc.
I think you're is plenty of optimism... for him or any other manager that would have been appointed. Is there really any reason to think he'll do well? I guess we can all hold at hope but the evidence is lacking for me.
The reason I was being kinda ironic / flippant is because I am concerned that the real questions will not be asked when they need to be first ones off the sheet. In hindsight Carlo was very good at, allegedly, not giving us the whole truth or batting off questions that made him uncomfortable. Benetiz will, understandably, not be afforded the same respect and his every move, blink and micro behaviour will be analysed by us much warier Evertonians. He will be able to bat those away easily by saying he hasn't had time or opportunity to look into those issues as he has just signed.
Much more interesting will be his comments about his small club reference and how he sees his relationship with Liverpool going forward now that he is Everton manager.
I expect that he would be invited to lots of official Liverpool functions as manager of a CL winning team(a poor team it was and lest we forget it was a CA team that collapsed and let them win) As manager of Everton I would expect not to see him attending anything Liverpool related while with our club.
I'm not sure I get to 7 or 8 quality players. Maybe 6 if we're being generous but some of those come with serious questions about their ability to stay healthy which is something to factor in. At any rate he had a Napoli team with Higuain, Mertens, Insigne, Koulibaly, Hamsik, Jorginho, Callejon and others and had their worst season until Carlo Fraudtastico came in and crapped all over it to a larger extent. So that's not actually making me feel too good.I think you're is plenty of optimism... for him or any other manager that would have been appointed.
We don't have the strongest squad but we do have about seven or eight players of real quality.
At his recent clubs I don't believe he would have had anything close to such a strong base to begin with.
There are in addition probably five or six solid squad players everyone of whom would have played every week in his Newcastle team for instance.
There are also some young lads in Gibson,Braithwaite,Nkounkou ,Small Gordon and Onyango who may play a part.
The base to build a team is there and we should remember that last season up to the last day we generally were in sixth or seventh position all season.
Finally , I think whatever manager was appointed will have access to funds to help strengthen the team further.
Of course his appointment is a risk ,everyone is.
CA was the least risky but that wasn't an overwhelming success either although I do feel he was on right track.
Benitez has been a serial winner, he would not have looked at us a few years ago, is he past his sell by date?
That is the rusk that only time will tell

Hope so!….I’d be very surprised if the first questions aren’t along the lines of:
’Why are you joining a club you once publicly belittled by calling them ‘small’?
’Why are you joining a club when a large majority of their fan base has made it perfectly clear they will not accept you as manager’.
’Will Duncan Ferguson be your Assistant Manager?’
I won't go mate.I don't want to start a poll (we already have far too many) but how will those who wanted somebody other than Benitiz react when he's introduced before Kick Off?
Refuse to attend so it doesn't apply?
Loud booing?
Sit on hands in silence?
Polite applause?
Enthusiastic applause?
I didn't particularly want him but now it's happening I will be between polite and enthusiastic.
I can't see any benefit of anything less.
Simple maths like 1+1 =2. Obviously too difficult for you to understandAnd this superior insight of yours is based on what?
I don't think Benitez has ever been a "serial winner " but being generous his halycon days were a decade ago.I'm not sure I get to 7 or 8 quality players. I have a hard time as seeing Benitez as a "serial winner" and even if that was true we just got done having an even better version of that being a complete failure who quit when it got tough. So sorry but I'm not filled with much optimism here.
