We rode our luck? We had 7 shots on target to their 4 and their only goal was offside.

The man u game, united had just beast spurs and City the two games prior so what were we supposed to do? play tiki taka? It was a good solid defensive display and we would of won if pickford hadn't of let a soft goal in. We did have 8 shots although united did have 24.

We didn't loose to Leicester we were knocked out on pens we drew the game.

I and many other evertonians think it was our most enjoyable football for a while.

I dont understand why people are making out like you have to be a tatical genius to do well in the prem. Dyche has been in it for year and hes crap, hodgeson the same. Bloody hell the RS won the league the other year by having a striker that drops deep, having two wingers that run into the space he leaves and then they bang it long.

It isn’t about whats complicated in this league its about whats effective. Can dunk create a effective side? I think so.

So basically what you’re saying is, if I’m reading between the lines. You’re fine with appointing Ferguson, because he could be like Sean Dyche?

Hodgson, is an experienced manager, who’s been successful at what he does for 4 decades.

Sean Dyche has managed previously and does what he needs for Burnley.

Appointing Ferguson as a manager, who has no experience, to manage a side like ours, is going to go well?

Leicester dominated us, United Dominated us, Arsenal was a disaster. Don’t let the fact it’s Dunc cloud your judgement.

Love the bloke, but we didn’t set the world alight, he has no managerial experience, and coming in, when the clubs at its lowest ebb for 3-4 years, is a recipe for disaster, and I thoroughly believe we’d be in a relegation scrap.

I would tend to disagree with some of this.

Mina, in particular, is more than capable of playing in a higher line (did so for Columbia this weekend) and is decent enough on the ball to play in the middle of a back three. Godfrey we all know how versatile he is and nobody would have many worries there. Holgate, despite having a nightmare of a season, has played most of the best football of his career in a back three. Ok, I wouldn't necessarily want him starting all the time, but he'd be useful to keep around. We don't know enough about Branthwaite to decide if he'd be ready to be included in the conversation yet. The only one we could probably definitely agree on there would be Keane who has shown time and time again how limited he is in a high line.

Digne I wouldn't have too many concerns about in this system, it would probably help Nkounkou's development as well as the defensive side of the game seemed to be where he needed most work. On the right, Coleman could provide cover but yes, we would 100% need a new right wing back (but the same goes for a right back if someone comes in who plays a back 4)

In midfield, I don't have any worries about Allan at all. Doucoure also has a great engine, but Doucoure worries me in a two as he seems at his best in a midfield three with licence to bomb on. Gbamin we don't know enough about (although every time I watch a YouTube highlights package of him, I worry he wasn't going to be a great signing anyway), Davies and Gomes most of us would agree that we could improve on, so I do sort of have reservations in there, but again that's probably true regardless of the system we play

In attack, Richarlison and Calvert Lewin would be great in a 343, should suit them both (that goes for Potter's version and Nuno's). Not so sure about James, but we still need to sign a right winger (ideally a left footed one) regardless of what happens with James this summer.

I don't think we are miles off being able to play that sort of system comfortably, but I think my main point here is that whether you're playing 4231, 433 or 343, the same weaknesses exist in the team anyway so it shouldn't really matter *that* much which system the new manager wants to play, the signings we make to address the weaknesses in the squad would probably be similar anyway

Mina aside, I don't see much disagreement there. 3-4-3 is quite a specialised formation and requires players with specific characteristics. Sure, we can pick out a handful of players from our first 11 who could play in a 3-4-3, but what about the rest of the players?

I've no real problem with us playing 3-4-3 if we can reshape the squad to suit it, but my overriding point is that adapting to a 3-4-3 will require a larger overhaul this summer than would otherwise be required if we bring in a manager who prefers a more conventional system that suits our squad. Can we afford another huge overhaul in players? It would probably take 2 summer windows to build a squad where all the players are comfortable in a 3-4-3... do we have the luxury of another 2 transitional seasons?

Personally, if I thought NES was a standout candidate who could take us to the next level I'd be willing to accept the time needed to overhaul the squad to play his system, but he's not a standout candidate by any definition. He'd just be another convenient and easy appointment in our long march to mediocrity.

To be fair I couldn’t care less about having a “big name” anymore. We just had Carlo Ancelotti and finished 10th playing the worst brand of football I’ve ever seen. I doubt I’ll ever get excited for a new manager again after that.

Exactly where am at mate. Not buying into the 'he gets us' i dont care where he is from as long as his track record is on an upward curve. Rubens Amorim for me, he has a relatively low profile at the minute and has been progressive each season. Perfect for us if it was possible

I`m not saying we should appoint Howe but the way some people are dismissive of him purely because he got relegated with Bournemouth is a bit harsh, dont forget they would and should have stayed up if the goal line technology and VAR worked in the Villa v Sheff Utd game. It should have been Villa that went down!

Unfortunately Howe will not get the chances he probably deserves, the biggest reason is, he is English!

NES has now identified the 442 as the formation to break the top teams, Howe and Dyche have been using that for years and over achieving with it!

Looking at Howes team at Bournemouth it is easy to see they were energetic and athletic, technically not great players but thats where they were and what they could attract. He made King look like a Premier League player.

The football was always progessive and I always enjoyed watching his Bournemouth side, they were good to watch, he even turned over some of the ESL 6. My point is with the players at his disposal he should never have kept them in the Premier League let alone stay there for 5 years (15/16-19/20), he massively over achieved whilst selling his best players to survive. They are now back with what Eddie has built there and the players he bought.

Some will point to bad buys such as Ibe and Solanke. Lets not forget the many many good buys which has taken a tiny club like Bournemouth to mixing it with the elite..... Not to be under estimated.

Perhaps I am biased when it comes to English managers but they need to have a chance. If you are going with some mediocre foreigner I`d rather us take a chance on Lampard, Dyche or Howe. Still think we should be going for the best in the market if we can get.......
