He 'coached' a B team

Wow
within the club he then managed, with the same philosophy ranging from their lowest age group to the seniors. There was a clear pathway and logic for him to show he was capable before taking the main job. If im not mistaken Barca B actually got relegated from the 2nd division a few years later and now sit in the third tier. He coached a B team that is generally full of kids in a MANS league.

On a sidenote that's probably why barca youngsters can develop so early as they're used to playing open age.

Arteta - very fortunate to have had a Pep apprenticeship and that seems what has got him the Arsenal job, the fact he'll try and play football and there must have been some promise of 'we will play like city do' or along those lines.

Pirlo - I'm sure he managed an u23's team before moving up to the seniors, but even if not, he's taken the champions of 9 in a row to 4th. On the last day of the season.

Giving a guy a job based on name is short-sighted. YOu cant manage on passion alone. Dunc got some good results but the football wasn't great in his games (understandably he just needed results, why worry about the football?). That passion that got more out of players only works in the very short-term. ALso, look at his treatment of Kean, rightly or wrongly, players in the squad won't want him as manager.

Ferguson needs to do what Gerrard has done, what Rooney is trying to do, Lampard did. He needs to somewhere, earn his stripes, show he has something about him and then he can be considered.

WHy do you always twist the narrative?
  • a manager who cant separate himself from his emotions when we need a coach and not a fan in the dugout - it is possible to be both
  • a manager who was impetuous - gets Kean on as a sub...5 minutes later subs the sub - he acted quickly to sort out the situation.
  • his only win was against Chelsea on a wave of emotion - he was unbeaten
  • the other 3 performances were a gradual let down starting when United equalised in his second game and deteriorating badly from that point - he was unbeaten

He may have been unbeaten but it was awful.

Probably, but yes the main point is the DoF model should work in a high manager turnover environment like ours.

If the DoF was in charge of managerial appointments then it would do. You can't have a DoF who's well known philosophy is to buy low, develop younger and sell high, and then bring in a manager who no matter how good he is, wants older, experienced players for instant results.

I hope Brands gets his choice this time. MOsh has had his picks, and obviously I can't blame him for taking Ancelotti, it was a coup. Now let Brands do his job and take full control.

Im not for Ferguson at all. BUt his job wasnt to create pretty football it was just to get whatever results he could. He is not ready for Everton, but nobody can judge his football based on three or four games.

At the time we were panicking, dreadful. He got them back to basics, 442 playing on passion. It was what was needed. Now, we dont need that, we need a clear, experienced manager who can work to Brands' criteria and develop the team. Ferguson isn't that. Maybe in the future but he needs to prove himself somewhere.

I don't think Brands/Everton have a clue yet, never mind the press/bookies,.

This is a setup that belatedly sacked Marco Silva, without any clue who would replace him. Ancelotti was still in a job when they sacked him.

I dont blame them for not having a clue yet - this time. CA gave no warning and just left within two days. I just beg that they think big picture and get someone who wants the time to build, can work with brands, has the same look on football.

Spot on with Silva sacking though, there was no plan. At the time Brands was asking for stability and we sacked him anyway. Same when they brought in Fat corrupt Sam.

Feels like the DoF hasn't had anyone on his wavelength. Maybe Silva (but ultimately was a big ask from the start).

Given a manager is only ever a bad few months from the sack, I think they should always have a shortlist. They probably do. It should prevent the flavour of the month appointments.

I think we should also be proactively trying to build a pipeline of managers, which to be fair, we look to be doing since Brands come in.

That's fair and yes in normal circumstances, a manager leaves because hej's been sacked or he's been excellent, so they know to be ready. I can slightly understand why they may be "off-guard" here.

Just need to let Brands have full control because it doesn't feel like he's been able to make one appointment yet of his choosing. I'd love for us to have a system in place where we can have a U23's manager be ready to step up, or develop them so they can take over - however doesnt really happen in England.
