That wouldn't be dependent on them playing though. The payment was just deferred, it isn't optional, so we'll still have to pay it regardless.

I also think they are marked as say 4m a year (essentially total due cost/contract length) from an accounting viewpoint.

That section probably relates to the cash section, which runs in parallel to that area, and is similar but different.

I was responding to the notion that stability is the way forward when it should be progress instead. As I said to another poster if we can be smart about our business in the transfer market we can look to finish in the top half of the table hopefully and then the following season improve on that. That is a positive thing isn’t it?
Yes, but none of it happens without stability.

I think you're conflating stability and stagnation.

They aren't the same thing.

Stability leads to stagnation and complacency which is what happened in the 90s and beyond.

Why do you think the club purposely used phrases such as “be careful what you wish for “ because it played on supporters emotions because they had already been through terrible periods with last day staying up scraps and money issues especially under Walter Smith and fans not being happy about the custodians direction of the club were bombarded with that phrase.

It was really about not upsetting the apple cart and keep the current regime in place.

Im not sure what the problem is, im trying to be positive by not wanting the same behaviour repeated of the past. That’s it mate.

generally good and no surprises.

One interesting thing (to me) in the notes, which if I understand it correctly is that as at 30th June 2024, for everyone we had under contract there were potential contract clauses that could be met that would have cost us £67m in total (if met).

Contingent Appearance Fees
As per the terms of some transfer agreements entered into there are fees contingent on future appearances of certain players. At 30 June 2024 there is £67,338,000 (2023: £78,007,000) of contingent fees which are not considered probable based on management’s best estimates.

Seems a lot, but given none of them were "probable" It could be that we just had a standard win bonus clause for Europe or a cup.

Dele Alli?

I think it's important for us to accept that the basket case we'd devolved into will take time to rectify.

We aren't going to go from the verge of relegation and oblivion to the glory days without a period to catch our breath and put our house in order.

Stability is all any of us wanted for Christmas, and we got it. Let's build from it properly instead of instantly declaring we need to move on from it.

We can put our house in order and progress year after year. And when I say progress im not expecting some kind of trophy haul or challenge for titles in a short time frame . Build properly, buy smartly and build teams around the better players with the long term goal being our best players actual win things and a be successful here rather than moving on to achieve just that.

It’s important to remember that this club hasn’t been right for years pre/after Moshiri but that view was scoffed at by many and led to the inevitable.

Hopefully lessons are learned. No point in having a nice new home if it’s just going to be same old for another decade or two.

Far from easy of course and im interested to see the kind of players we target this summer.

These new owners are hardly here for stability.

They've already made an off-field impact. I fully expect to see them make an on-field impact from July.

I suspect they'll be demanding a top half finish next season of Moyes or whoever is manager come August. That's about as much "stability" as competent, ambitious people will stomach. Positions can be made up quickly enough in this mediocre league.
Look at forest and villa for evidence of that

Oh, top ten is non-negotiable as far as I am concerned. This assumes the Friedkins do what is needed for starters come summer, but I expect they will. We were 12th on points won on the field of play last term and won't be too far off the top 10 even this. We have huge scope for improvement.

"Stability" in the Kenwright era was really code for "status quo", where Bill was taking us "down down, deeper and down" by remaining in situ despite being financially and competently unfit for the job. Our fans are actually lagging reality, right now, because many - especially anybody under 40 - is used to seeing us as how people over 40 used to see Coventry City in the 90s. Plucky underdogs.

We're Everton. The very definition of sleeping giants. Wakey wakey, Evertonians!

There’s an opportunity whilst the top teams are in a period of flux. City will be moving in from Guardiola and De Bruyne at some point soon, United won’t stay as bad as they are forever, Spurs and Chelsea have fallen right off it, Liverpool will have to deal with a post Salah and Van Dijk world soon whether the sign deals or not.

We should be pushing as much as is safe to do without endangering the club.

If Nottingham Forest can go from bottom four to top four in one season there is no reason why we can't have a similar upturn.

Didnt Leicester finish 15th the season before they won the league?

Look, its not easy to do, but its certainly achieveable.

Boring I know, but just a season of sitting in 9th for the whole season will do more after the last few years, but no doubt I and the fanbase will be frothing if we aint 4th at Christmas.

15th eh and that was ten years ago so you are saying it's on!
