What’s the story here? Was a bit before my time

I'll try long time ago, Anita Gregg lent Bill money to buy Peter Johnson's shares, PJ owned Everton at the time, she was supposed to have lent Bill £7m to complete the transaction. Paul and Anita Gregg we're then put on the board alongside Bill who I think was also Chairman at the time. Anyway a few years later the Kings Dock stadium came up and Everton in conjunction with the Council were going to build the stadium on the Kings Dock.
The Greggs offered to help fund the stadium, £30m at the time for a state of the art stadium. This video is thirty minutes long and will explain it far better than me, it's from the Horse's mouth as they say

@FTY. Here's some more info...

It would have had a roof that could open/close depending on the event, built in leisure and hotel facilities and if I recall correctly, the pitch could be moved outside the stadium completely to facilitate events. It would've have been state of the art vs even today's new stadia.

Edit: the stuff about kenwright was only confirmed recently by Paul Gregg and that's where he revealed the extent of kenwright's greed and selfishness.

Could have moved to this 60k seater stadium in the most prime location on the waterfront ( where the m&s bank arena is now)

All we needed was 30m. Paul Gregg offered it in condition kenwright sold the club to him. Kenwright refused. According to paul Gregg, Liverpool city council then offered to pay because of the great opportunity for the city. Kenwright refused. The deal collapsed and then a few years later he tried to move us to a crap stadium next to a Tesco in Kirby.

Shocking that. Could have been where we are now with BMD a quarter of a century ago

Then again I’d have never had all the memories I’ve had at Goodison if it had happened, so every cloud

It's a shame we will lose DCL for free because on his day he can easily be a £25m player.

We'll get rid of Beto, but likely only on loan for the final two years of his contract.

Chermiti is a prospect only.

That means the new owners are going to have to stump up significant money on two new strikers - or sacrifice (most likely) Branthwaite and use that money on two strikers, a CB and a full back. £80m will probably do that tbh.

I really hope they don't walk through the doors and immediately get rid of our best player instead of putting some money into the first team.

….i suspect whatever happens to Branthwaite will be largely down to Branthwaite. I know he’s under contract but power is very much with players these days, especially when they are in demand.

Even without including any benefit from Friedkin’s restructuring Everton’s debt, we’re going to be in a much better position financially in the very near future. New stadium revenue will start coming in this financial year, as season ticket sales come in before the end of June. More big contracts of underperforming/unused players expire at the end of this season- Keane, Holgate, Doucoure. Then others such as Young, Coleman, Gana and DCL. There is a real opportunity next summer to move on from the endless transfer windows of needing to sell before we can buy.

What memories? Since Bill took over ots been a nightmare.

Before Bill yes some grest times under Carter.

My son said the only thing he will remember Goodison for is beating city 4-0 he is 23 years old, sad that is all he has

It’s why for me, I’ve been saying that this season is one of the most important seasons in then clubs history. It’s vital we are a prem team come the summer, as you said more revenue from stadium, bigger sponsorship, stadium naming rights maybe Toyota, loads of players contracts of the books, new manager, new board. It’s one of the biggest and best opportunities a club has for a full reset, not just in terms of player recruitment, but right from the top changing the culture and mentality of this club.

The trouble is, because of the fundamentally stupid and unfair rules of ffp that only benefit those clubs who can cherry pick, selling our best player being from the youth team (via Carlisle) will give us the most freedom under ffp.

It stinks. The whole modern game stinks.

Not sure the story is over with DCL, can understand his reluctance to sign with the current incarnation of Everton but a new owner, a better manager, a bit to spend on the squad and it’s suddenly a more appealing place to stay. Especially when he wasn’t inundated in the summer.
