Ha Ha Ha.….ooh, that tells us then. I think I’ll still use it on occasion.
"The Old Lady".
What a nu-fan description that is.

There's no way you called Goodison the Old Lady back then.….I honestly quite like it, Dave. It’s a term of endearment, I wouldn’t get political over it.
We all have our personal memories, mine going back to 1961. Years playing for the school in the morning, going to Everton Supporters Club pre-game just wanting my Dad & Uncles to finish their ale. Running up the steep first load of Upper Gwladys St steps & then those final short climb into the open air of the Old Lady.
it’s that view I never tired of, it’s that view ithat will be my abiding memory. imagine then watching Alan Ball.
New memories to be formed at BMD.

It is at best an early 21st century idiot expression thought up by an Echo chimp with a typewriter.
I’ve already said earlier on it was the Independent in 1999, a national paper and journalist. But you keep with the Echo chimp line. There's no way you called Goodison the Old Lady back then.

Ha ha ha ha.….I actually remember calling it ‘Old Lady’ in 1962 walking back to my house off Everton Rd, I was 6 years old & we never owned a car. It was common terminology back then. Erm, honest.
Know loads of lads who go the match ( unlike you) who call goodison the old lady it’s a term of endearment for a classy old stadium that’s had a load of firsts in its history . Goodison our old lady is the original and the best for many things enjoy it while you can .Ha Ha Ha.

I’ve told him this twice and fielded a very valid question as to why we shouldn’t call it the Old Lady. I can only assume he has me on mute.Attributed to David Conn for his article on 4 November 1999 ‘Goodison Conundrum’ in The Independent according to the font of truth Wikipedia.

Correct. An utter walloper of an expression used by no one in the real world.Indeed, I’ve been going for over 60 years and never referred to GP as that, nor indeed heard anyone ever refer to it in such a way. It’s been manufactured over the last 20 years…..
