Interesting that one person has said "it's supposed to be glass", and another "it's definitely perforated aluminium."
I'm obviously justified in not being clear!
I'm no engineer, but if it is perforated wouldnt it be pretty useless as a roof?

Yeah, I do recall that now you mention it.
However, Meis was off the project when the final design was made, and plenty was changed after he left, chiefly to make efficiencies where possible.
I guess my unspoken worry is that the roof design might have been cheapened.
I'd love to know for sure what we're getting.
Only the barrel sides are 'glass' though right? The actual top of the roof is like a zinc colour so didn't think it was see through.Interesting that one person has said "it's supposed to be glass", and another "it's definitely perforated aluminium."

The images of Croke Park look amazing. The bar looks fantastic but I suspect there is no real ale? Always puts me off visiting Ireland (and Scotland for that matter). Number 1 suggestion I will make when we get canvassed about the facilities at our new place is that a decent pint of real ale is essential. It's never been more popular with beer drinkers and there is no excuse for not providing it. I'll be disappointed if all we get is keg and craft beers.
The Ale in the boozers especially local ones are boss mate you don’t have to worry abar thatThe images of Croke Park look amazing. The bar looks fantastic but I suspect there is no real ale? That much is true. As for the rest of the country......I was in Edinburgh a few weeks ago, loads of real ale places.
The top of the roof has solar panels on it doesn’t it? I don’t think they cover the whole thing but quite a few of them if I remember correctlyOnly the barrel sides are 'glass' though right? The actual top of the roof is like a zinc colour so didn't think it was see through.

Indeed. The sides of the roof at least look double-skinned, and it looks like sheet metal for the inner skin:I'm no engineer, but if it is perforated wouldnt it be pretty useless as a roof?
They definitely adjusted the roof construction to make it more uniform. That was one thing that was highlighted as a cost saving. The height of the roof was also lowered at that stage. The changes were mainly external wernt they? The steps, no car park, that sort of thing, iirc. I dont think the final build will be that far from what we all expect.
The above image suggests the inner edge of the roof is glass.Only the barrel sides are 'glass' though right? The actual top of the roof is like a zinc colour so didn't think it was see through.
According to the planning docs, the dark grey section on this picture of the south stand roof shows you where the solar panels will be:The top of the roof has solar panels on it doesn’t it? I don’t think they cover the whole thing but quite a few of them if I remember correctly
Lad, Irish GAA member i know all that. Rules still require a vote, other codes don't have 'free' reign to the facilities and the previous seating used was temporary.Regarding seating on the hill, rep of Ireland football team played a couple of matches there when the Aviva was getting developed. Temporary seats were put in the hill for the matches and the crush bars were removed. It doesn’t take long to install and remove seats on the hill. The gaa have long past objected to alllowing football etc being played in their stadiums. The rule change allows it for a start, and do you really think the gaa are going to turn their backs on the mega bucks they will receive from UEFA?
Light and doent rust?
That was my take too.Indeed. The sides of the roof at least look double-skinned, and it looks like sheet metal for the inner skin:

In fact, looking at this picture, it looks like the majority of the roof is solid sheet metal, and perhaps only the wrapped sides and the inner edge are glass?
