how common are federal wire taps? did they sting him or catch him on purpose?

and was the story leaked or did they go to him first with the evidence?

If I understood it correctly, they were originally looking into the movement of his finances as potential bribes or similar payoffs. That's standard with any gov't official.

It wasn't until the got the wiretap that they understood what the money was actually being used for.

I read an article on this somewhere so I'll see if I can't find it and post it.

This article out of the WSJ says that reports are "hazy" (see the paragraph below the girl's picture) but it's been fairly clear that his transactions alerted the authorities as they were considered "unusual" by the banking system.

If I see any other article that points out some sort of timeline, I'll post it.

How is he a legend? He would have been a legend if he coaxed her to bed using charm etc etc. He paid for sex. Meaning anybody who stumps the required fee gets to have her. Kinda a cop-out if you ask me (and the fact it is illegal)
